Planning a family vacation that everyone will enjoy can be a challenge. Add a teenager or two into the mix and it becomes almost impossible. If you're looking for the perfect vacation for the whole family (even the teenagers,) you might want to consider a cruise.
Cruise ships have come a long way over the years. They have become like floating cities with everything imaginable to do onboard. Onboard to huge cruise liners you'll find activities that everyone in the family will enjoy.
Everyone loves to swim, or at least lounge around poolside and relax and suntan. Most teens will pass hours playing around in the pool, perhaps flirting with that cute guy or girl from down the hall, or simply soaking up the sun. There is normally a lifeguard on duty, so you won't mind letting the teens go for a dip while you are off doing other things.
Just about every cruise ship will have an arcade and a movie theatre. You and I both know kids and teens love video games, so the arcade will certainly keep them entertained until their coins or tokens run out. Kids and adults alike will enjoy catching a movie once in a while and they usually feature new and popular movie choices.
For the active teen, there is always a gym onboard with top of the line exercise equipment, weights, treadmills and sometimes even a climbing wall for rock-climbing enthusiasts. Rock climbing is a lot of fun and extremely good exercise. Your teen will have a lot of fun with it.
These are just a few of the fun activities that your teen will enjoy onboard a cruise ship. Cruise lines are updating their ships all the time and are adding new and fun activities. Check with the major cruise lines and I'm sure you'll find lots of activities your whole family will enjoy.

Williamsburg and James City County are premier locations for boating and fishing enthusiasts to live and visit in Virginia. The James River is just a short distance from the Chesapeake Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway. Marinas near the James River are a wonderful, restful berth for boaters and offer the amenities, and sometimes- dining. Inlets and coves used since colonial times and perhaps longer allow the boater a pleasant respite from the busy James River channel, which carries boats from the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel to the piers of Richmond, Virginia. There are several well-maintained public boat launches in the area that lead into the James or Chickahominy Rivers, or allow access to lakes or reservoirs.

Here's a Video about best caribbean hotels for kids:
The Caribbean is the perfect place to relax on tropical shores and unwind with a cocktail amongst the palm trees. But many budget travelers are put off by high trip prices and the large number of luxury hotels way beyond their means, often believing it's the playground for the rich and famous. Yet the truth is there are several tricks to bagging a Caribbean vacation package that is affordable and fun without having to resort to stringing up a hammock to the nearest palm tree.
1. Shop around for a great deal - if you take the time to search online and are prepared to go last minute then you're guaranteed to find an amazing offer. You may be put off by the initial outlay of an all-inclusive package, but very often it ends up being cheaper as eating out for every meal in a restaurant can prove to be very expensive. Also an all-inclusive Caribbean vacation package allows you to spend your budget and stick to it, as well as offering access to a whole host of included extras which would be very pricey separately, such as water sports and a trip to the spa.
2. Go off-peak - many people are put off traveling to the Caribbean during off peak season because of the risk of hurricanes. Off-peak is from April to October and although the risk of hurricane is higher with such high-tech forecasting systems nowadays the risk to travelers is minimal. In fact, off-peak can be one of the best times to experience the Caribbean, escaping the expensive winter months with hotels and package deals offering savings of up to 50%. You'll escape the winter crowds and experience the many local events and festivals which happen during the off-peak season, from jazz festivals to sports competitions.
3. Save money on flights - book well in advance to secure cheaper tickets, with round trips costing less than a one-way. The other option is to be flexible with your dates and travel mid week, fall, spring or summer, when you're bound to find a bargain. Or if you're feeling brave leave it until the absolute last-minute, just a couple of days before travel to pick up empty seats or hotel rooms. Traveling from remote airports also often conveys a discount. There are some great online sites that will find you budget airline tickets (see resources).
4. Choose a small hotel chain - if you opt for a less expensive inn or guesthouse rather than a beachside resort you may find much cheaper prices as well as experience a different side to the Caribbean away from the well worn tourist trail. For example, in Granada and Tobago, Beyond the Beaches is a small chain of 17 alternative hotels inland on the coast providing affordable accommodation off the beaten track.

First time cruisers questions:Bahamas!?
My husband and I are planning on taking a cruise in October to the Bahamas. We've never been before.
We're leaving from Port Canaveral , FL and going on a Royal Caribbean ship.
I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on what we should expect.
1.Will it still be warm in October?
2.Do we need a passport? What kind of identification do we need? I read the FAQ's on the site , but I didn't completely understand it (only 21 yrs.old;never vacationed much before w/o my parents.)
3.Any other advice on ANYTHING you deem useful!
THANKS!
The rules requiring a passport for everyone will change next summer. Right now all you need is a certified copy of your birth certificate and a photo ID. BUT, since you will not be cruising until October you have plenty of time to get a passport. You can go to the US passport office's web site: http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html
and print the application form, one for you and one for your husband. Then you will need two passport photos (get them from an AAA office or some travel agencies or Wal Mart will do them. The fee for the passport is $100 per adult. You will need to mail your application with the fee, your birth certificate, and photos to the passport office. They will take about 4 to 6 weeks to send you your passport. All of that process is explained on the web site.
The weather in October will be perfect, except that it will be the end of the hurricane season and so there may be a chance for bad weather. If there is bad weather the cruise line will steer away from it and even change the cruise itinerary to stay away. So don't worry about being on ship. Otherwise the weather will be fine temperature wise. We cruised out of Port Canaveral last December and had perfect weather for our whole cruise. The weather was also perfect for the beaches at our port stops.
You can look at the features of your ship on this web link: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/ships/home.do;jsessionid=0000g1ReZRDW_bhwSxOBHjycNrq:12hbiocus?cS=NAVBAR
it helps to know what things will be available on your ship.
For the most part your cruise will be all inclusive. Let me explain.
Regardless of which cruise line you go on the things that are included are pretty much the same. The price of your cruise includes your cabin, all meals (including breakfast, lunch dinner, snacks and free room service)(you do pay to eat in the specialty restaurants), all shows and entertainment, and free use of all facilities on ship. The things that you will have to pay for are:
GRATUITIES: They will amount to about $10 per person in your cabin per day. When you check in at the pier they will set up an on-board charge account for you to cover any and everything you may buy on ship. They will issue you a "cruise card" which will also serve as your room key and pass to get on and off the ship. At the end of the cruise they will add the gratuity to your tab and you can pay with a credit card or cash, your choice. So your cruise will be essentially cashless while you are on the ship.
ALCOHOLIC DRINKS AND SOFT DRINKS: Coffee, tea, milk, juice, and lemonade and punch will be provided FREE but you must pay for soft drinks and alcoholic beverages and they will add a 15% gratuity to each drink and soft drink order.
PHOTOGRAPHS: Cruise lines will take plenty of photographs of you all over the ship, in the dining room, and as you exit the ship in ports. These will cost a lot, like $15 to $20 for most.
TOURS/EXCURSIONS: You are not required to book any tours and can get off and on in the ports as much as you want. But the cruise line will offer a lot of tours and these are expensive.
SOUVENIRS: Anything you buy on ship from a gift shop or duty free shop goes on your on board account. Things that you buy on shore you pay cash or credit card for.
CASINO: If you plan to gamble on ship you will need cash for that.
OTHER: most cruise lines have what they call "specialty" restaurants where there is a gratuity/service charge. All other food on board is free and its not really necessary to budget for food; you cannot eat all of the FREE FOOD that will be available.
SPA SERVICES: If you want/need to have your hair done, get a massage or wrap, or any services from the spa, you will have to pay for them. You can use the gym free but the spa stuff cost big bucks.
INTERNET SVCS: Ships now have internet cafe and some have WiFi but the there is a fee for internet access and it is very expensive (like about $50 to $60 an hour).
You cabin will likely have a minibar with soft drinks and munchies; you have to pay for them (but there is free room service 24/7).
I have been on about 20 cruises, many with Royal Caribbean, and here's what I suggest based on my experiences:
Always pack your passport and cruise documents in your carry on bag ONLY.
The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM, so take:
-swim wear (at least 2),
-shorts, tank tops and "T's"
-sandals,
-beach shoes,
-your snorkel equipment if you have it,
-sun glasses and sun screen,
-lotions,
-a cap or big hat for the sun,
-a book if you are a reader,
-your music player,
-sneakers and clothes to workout in if you like to use the gym,
-good walking shoes,
-your camera, and
-other personal toiletries including tooth paste, mouth wash or lotions.
Your cabin will have towels and soap provided, including pool and beach towels, and a hair dryer. It will also have a generic hair shampoo so you do not need to bring that unless you like a specific brand.
After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports or resort casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, (like a bank employee), shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc. Don't over pack , take clothes that you can mix and match tops and bottoms and plan to wear each piece twice. Since you are going to the Caribbean you will likely be in shorts and/or swim wear most of every day so evening clothes don't usually get much wear.
Your cruise will have a formal night or two when you can wear your best stuff and get pictures taken, and maybe meet the ship’s Captain. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. You will not be denied entry to the main dining room if you decide not to dress up, as long as you are at least sports casual. But most people do dress up. A gown or party dress for women and a suit or tux for men. Some people dress up both formal nights, some don't.
- Its best to pack using soft-sided luggage because with space limited in your cabin it fits under the beds better if its not hard sided luggage.
- Pack using the vacuum clothing bags (about $20 for 3 at Target) so that you can get more in your bag AND so that if the TSA at the airport opens your bag they can see what's inside without rummaging through your things.
-Take a small carry-on bag for the last night of the cruise. On the last evening you will be required to put your luggage outside your cabin by about 2:00 AM so that they can start taking it down to the lower deck for offloading the next morning. So you will need a small bag for your toiletries and your clothes that you sleep in.
- If you can take a six-pack of bottled water and soft drinks in your carry-on for your cabin. You will have to pay for both on the ship and its nice to have those handy in the cabin.
- If you are taking your cell phone, MP3 player or other item that needs to be plugged in take an extension cord as the plugs in the cabin are generally not in the best places and there are usually only one or two.
- Take a small bottle of hand sanitizer and/or hand-wipes. There are generally sanitizer dispensers at the entrances of restaurants, the buffets and dining room, but some times the are not there or not working. The sanitizer helps prevent the spread of the Norwalk Virus that sometimes occur on cruise ships.
-If you plan to get into the pools or hot tub as soon as you get on ship (they will be open), bring those clothes in your carry on bag; you other luggage may not get to your cabin until much later in the afternoon.
- Take a can of air freshener for your cabin bathroom. The bathrooms do not have exhaust fans.
- Take a few zip lock bags of various sizes; they always come in handy.
- Take some one dollar bills (also maybe a few $5's) for tipping the porters in the airport, at the pier (they do not work for the ship), and they will come in handy in port stops for buying small items in the markets and at vendor stands; especially bartering places.
That may be more than you wanted but you asked for advice.
Here's a Video about caribbean vacation in october:
As you may have been told, there are a lot of great wonders to see and experience in Aruba. There are the beautiful sunsets, the white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, the high rise hotels and resorts, shopping centers, restaurants, bars, casinos, and the island's nightlife. All of these are available for locals and tourists to enjoy, and there's no better way to witness and experience all of these than to stay in one of Aruba vacation rentals.
Vacation rentals in Aruba now come in great numbers. Most of the available Aruba vacation rentals, however, are villa type. These Aruba vacation rentals stand proudly amongst the island's accommodations and has long been considered as the premiere rental destination in Aruba as more and more people from near and far away places have preferred these locations for several good reasons.
Here are few of the most popular Aruba vacation rentals. Consider the following as they might be the best places for you to stay when you visit Aruba.
Garden Villa
The Garden Villa is just one of the Aruba vacation rentals that boast a contemporary style. It offers three bedrooms that are all air conditioned, with three baths and an outdoor shower area. This vacation rental can sleep up to six people, but the rooms can be set up with additional rollaway bed, if needed. Aside from, this one of the notable Aruba vacation rentals is fully equipped and well-appointed with a kitchen that present a modern style, plus an indoor and outdoor living and dining area. Perhaps what's best about this rental property is that it provides access to the scenic views of Aruba, with the lush green gardens and the refreshing pool.
Casa Aruba
Here is another great destination to stay while in Aruba. Just like the Garden Villa, Casa Aruba provides three available bedrooms for its guests. This vacation rental property is located in an upscale and quiet residential area known as Rooi Santo. It is just minutes away from the beach at the Marriott Hotel and Casino, as well as in one of Aruba's vacation destinations, the Tierra del Sol and its gold course. Casa Aruba is but one of the Aruba vacation rentals that are designed for those who love a sense of solitude with a green lush garden that guarantees each guest a perfect privacy.
Salina Villa
Salina Villa is finally out there to complete the list of the most visited Aruba vacation rentals available in the island nowadays. Well, unlike the first two mentioned Aruba vacation rentals, this property offers four bedrooms and four bathrooms that offer access to the best ocean views. This rental properly is just minutes away from the Palm Beach and the elegant and luxurious Marriott Hotel and Resort. Perhaps what's nice about this property is that it features large family and living rooms, complete the necessary amenities. The villa can comfortable accommodate up to 11 persons and beyond the walls of its rooms are the lovely gardens, the pool with fountain and bar, gazebo and a terrace for outdoor entertainment.
What is the best Michigan lake community to live in for a single 32 year old male?
I'm moving from Chicago and am a single 32 year male. The trendy single scene is awesome in Chicago, but I'm about ready to get a place on a lake in Michigan. I understand Michigan isn't the greatest place to move as a single guy who often vacations in SoCal, Vegas, Miami, and the Caribbean, but I'm a down to earth guy and my family is in Michigan. Where would be a good lake spot to move to in Michigan? Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, Detroit Surrounding Area?? I'm extremely active and must be around other people to fully enjoy my lifestyle. Northern Michigan probably wouldn't work for me.
Grand Haven is a great town along Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan has the best beaches and a beautiful shore line. Grand Rapids is about 25 minutes from Lake Michigan. Grand Haven is right there. most people go to Grand Haven to the beach. I live in a nice town outside of Grand Rapids. Jenison. its a nice safe town I love it here. there are also fantastic rivers to go canoeing tubing kayaking and rafting down. we also have over 11,000 inland lakes. if you want to be right by the lake i would move to Grand Haven,.

And for others this is just the beginning in a series of wonderful vacation adventures that they will not be able to stop themselves from sharing with others.
Okay, so me,my dad and my cousins family are thinking about going on a cruise together... we are thinking about either going on a Royal Carrabien but they dont have a family suite that we really want... also it is kinda expencive but not TO TO expencive.... so me and my cousins have been thinking about other cruise liners to go on what would be better and would 13 year old girls with their parent have more fun on?? please help because we NEED to go someone over vacation
p.s we are thinking of going to to Caribbean for like 9 days
p.s.s what room size would be the best fro 5 people (we were thinking like a family suite or 2 joining rooms)
You will really enjoy Royal Caribbean. There are so many nice activities on the ship for young and the older. Royal Caribbean is coming out with a new ship that have room that are lofts, so that means there is a second floor in the room, it is a little pricey since the ship is brand new. I know it will start launching sometime this year. But the nice thing about Royal Caribbean it is worth the money you pay, you will not be disappointed. And make sure you go for the newest ships, these are the ones with the Rock Climbing Wall, Ice Skating rink, etc. So that would be the Voyager class, freedom class, or oasis class. The freedom and oasis is the newest lines. Here is a link that has pics of there new ship.

Here's a Video about best caribbean vacations for families:
Jamaica weather, like the other islands of Caribbean, has a tropical marine climate. It is called marine because of the influence of the sea. During the day the sea is usually cooler than the land. Winds blowing from the sea to the land will help cool the land. At night the land loses heat rapidly and cools down.
In Jamaica, the night is generally cooler than the day. The sea moderates the temperature that makes it neither too hot nor too cold at any time of the year. The land has warm temperatures throughout the year.
The climatic condition on the island has no marked change in the temperature from one season to another. Other things that influence the climate of Jamaica are the sea, the relief of the land and winds. Places close to the coast will feel the effect of the sea breeze on the land during the days.
The country is very hilly and mountainous and the hills extend from east to west across the island. If you live on the plains and take a trip into the hills, you should notice that it becomes cooler as you go higher. The reason for this is that for every increase of about 100 meters in height of land, the temperature falls to 1 degree Celsius. Towns such as Mandeville, Christiana, Moneague and Malvern have cooler temperatures during the year than places on the plain such as Ocho Rios and St. Ann's Bay. You can find these places easily on your map.
The weather is modified by the sea and by the mountainous nature of the country. The eastern portion of the island is crossed by the Blue Mountain range, rising from 900m to 2,256m; the central and western portions consist of interior mountain ranges surrounded by high Limestone plateau 305m to 900m and the south side of extensive plains less than 132m high.
There is considerable variation in the climate of the different regions. The coastal plains are hottest and driest, the climate of the limestone plateau sub-tropical and the higher areas much cooler.
The weather contributes to a climate that is comfortable and promotes a healthy environment. Because of the year round effect of sea breezes, there is little variation between summer and winter temperatures, the coolest months being December to March. However, there is a variation in day and night temperatures and greater variation between temperatures at high and low altitudes.
August is generally the warmest month of the year and February the coolest. Seasonal differences between these two months are usually less than 10 degrees, being often in the order of five degrees Celsius.
Relative humidity is fairly high although not as much as in places nearer the equator. In Kingston it ranges from 63 per cent in February to 5 per cent in October. Montego Bay is rather more humid, with an annual range between 71 and 77 per cent.
The island experiences its rainiest time occurring in May and June and again in September and October, this is sometimes extended to December. Jamaica has three types of rainfalls, the relief that is caused by moisture laden winds, this happens mostly in the Portland area.
The second type is convectional, where there is heavy rain fall for short periods of time, a lot of afternoon rains and finally, there is frontal, when warm air and cold air meets and this is called a cold front.
In Jamaica the hurricane season starts from June 1 to November 30 and the country is in a hurricane belt so it gets its fair share. However, with the increased in technology and the meteorological services giving warnings in advance, persons can be better prepared. It is always advisable when travelling to check what the weather is like in that location so you don't get caught in a hurricane.
Traveling alone as a female, is St Lucia safe ? specifically Reduit Beach - Rex Resorts?
Im planning a 5 day trip to St.Lucia this summer and I'll be spending the majority of it by myself .. my friends are coming along as well but due to a scheduling mishap, we arrive and depart at different times. I'll be there a total of 5 days earlier than the rest of them and Im the last one to leave.
So pretty much my vacation will be spent solo. I have never been to the Caribbean but Ive travelled solo to East Africa more times than I can count.
Just out of curiosity is St. Lucia safe for single female traveller's ? I'll be staying at the Rex Resorts Royal - Reduit Beach. I am a very low key traveller, I don't pack very heavy and I like to keep things very simple.
Wondering if anyone has any warnings, suggestions or things to mention on this .. or even a site where I could go to further my research.
Thanks !
St. Lucia is generally safe. Just use common safety sense and you should be fine. Things like not traveling alone at night in dark areas, flashing wads of cash, inviting strangers into your hotel room and etc.
Rodney Bay area is loaded with other travelers and everyone is walking going and coming. Rex staff is great and they will give you some help if you need it. The beach at Rex is fabulous You can go here for further research. Have a good time.
There are so many reasons to visit the Caribbean island of Jamaica.
The sun, the beaches, the food, the rum or my personal favorite, the Red Stripe beer!
The question remains, however, exactly where should I enjoy it?
When making your own plans, don't forget to explore the island outside of your particular hotel and make the effort to include some visits to Jamaica's smaller towns.
Here are four destinations worth considering:
1. Visit Port Royal, Jamaica
Port Royal sits at the western end of the Palisadoes sand spit which is the causeway from the Kingston Airport into Kingston. At one time, during the 1600's Port Royal was not only the capital of Jamaica but the most important British Port on the east side of North America: considerably more important than Boston! Even Admiral Lord Nelson had quarters there.
Unfortunately an earthquake hit in 1692 and leveled this once famous port city, famous for its wealth, pirates and lawlessness.
It's well worth a visit today however, for this history laden tourist attraction has attempted to showcase its past history with artifacts such as canons and other weapons, together with reconstructions.
Oh yes, the film 'Pirates of the Caribbean' was also filmed there.
2. Visit Mandeville, Jamaica
The town of Mandeville is situated 2000 feet above sea level, at approximately the center of the island but only some 65 miles west from Kingston.
It was planned in 1816 and named after a Viscount Mandeville, and this picturesque town was deliberately built with an 'English' feel to it: stone walled fields, stone buildings and green pastures.
Of course at 2000 feet above sea level the climate was very 'English' as well.
There are gardens, parks, spas and flower covered fields. The Mountain Coffee Factory is located here, various guest houses and Jamaica's oldest Golf-Club, and the first in the Caribbean, 'The Manchester Golf-Club' circa 1868!
3. Visit Port Antonio, Jamaica
Port Antonio, on the north-east coast of Jamaica, is less than a hundred miles from Kingston. It first became famous as a port in the 1880's when the expanding banana trade pushed its weekly sailings totals higher then the English port of Liverpool.
Later, in the 1950's it was discovered by the rich and famous. Hollywood shot movies and the stars visited.
Today it still is the place to be seen and the Jamaican Government has serious plans for Port Antonio to become Jamaica's third cruise ship port. The new Marina, Blue Lagoon and Frenchman's Cove are major attractions, and diving, mountain biking and caving are some of the activities that are available.
And don't forget it's close to the famous Ocho Rios but with far fewer tourists!
4....and of course you must visit Nine-Mile!
You don't go to Jamaica without visiting Nine-Mile in Saint Anne's. If you don't know why you should make this trip, don't mention the fact while you are in Jamaica! The magic words to remember are 'Bob Marley'.
Robert Nesta Marley was born in Nine-Mile in 1945 and his mausoleum is situated here also. Nine-Mile is one of the shrines for Jamaica's most famous musical personality...(the other one is the museum in Kingston!) And please don't admit to not knowing who Bob Marley was: just listen to the music in Jamaica and all will become clear.
Include a trip to the birthplace of the holder of the Jamaican Order of Merit in your plans. This would be the ideal place to share a bottle of Red Stripe beer or even try some Rastafarian foods! Drop by our website and we can tell you more.
