People will always find a unique place to relax and unwind at some point in their lives. Some people opt a very silent place while others opt to go to the busy and crowded malls to shop. Personally, I find going to the beach relaxing but exciting at the same time.

There is just something about the beach that captivates my heart. Perhaps it's because our city is abundant in beautiful beach spots. But what are really found in these beach resorts? Here are just some of them:

1. The Sea Itself - Breathtaking. It is in itself naturally amazing as it not only refreshes our body but also brings fun. Being able to float on water will always feel wonderful.

2 The Sand - This will always make you remember something. It can be your childhood when you have attempted or successfully made sand castles. It can also be your recent get-away with your honey when you wrote your names on the sand and took pictures of it.

3. Free Souvenirs - Souvenirs are found everywhere the beach. It can be that nearby unique seashell, or that hermit crab walking past your feet. You can even take home some sand if you like!

4. Happy People - It is almost rare to see someone sad at the beach. Everyone is happy! That is because everyone has a common goal --- that is to relax! The beach will always be a great place to read magazines, write poems or watch the sunset.

5. Sports - While others prefer quiet and calm activities at the beach, some find doing sports more relaxing. The beach is suitable for playing games such as Frisbee, flying a kite, playing catch and surfing!

People may have different ways of relaxing but for me, the beach is the best place. There will always be an exciting, fun-filled, memorable experience at the beach for everyone!

Does the pirate themed room at Caribbean Beaches Resort in Disney have a bathroom door?

I've been looking at some pictures of the pirate themed rooms at the Caribbean Beaches Resort in Disney, and I know there is a curtain separating the bathroom and bedroom, but is there an actual door?

The curtain separates the bedroom from the double sink area. Once standing in the sink area, there is a door to the side that separates the sink area from the toilet/shower.

Specialising in travel writing puts me ahead of the game when it comes to finding good deals and being offered promotional packages, called on as I often am to give my expert opinion on new travel products. I have been privileged enough to be wined, dined and entertained all over the world, attending top sporting events, bespoke retreats and a plethora of festivals. With the start of the F1 season on the horizon, I thought it was high time I shared my experiences of the high life associated with Monaco Grand Prix packages.

I have visited the sunny principality located on the Cote d'Azur on many occasions, and it's opulent atmosphere has allowed me to indulge in every luxury fantasy I've had whilst waiting to win the lottery. The feel of the infamous tax haven is laid back and luxurious, yet it has a unique sparkling of excitement wherever you go. It is an atmosphere that could be compared to the effervescent attributes of a glass of Dom Perignon chilled to perfection; on board a multi million pound super yacht - naturally. Yes, as the playground of the rich and famous, lapping up luxury is the only order of the day, and for most people, this opportunity only presents itself as part of a Grand Prix package in Monaco.

Sure, there is the Casino, for which Monaco is famous, there is also an amazing oceanarium and the exotic gardens atop a vast network of caves. The shops in Monaco also amaze many visitors. There is no BHS followed by a Waterstones and a WHSmiths - no, the shops in Monaco consist of Prada, Gucci and the like with the odd car showroom in between - all Ferrari, Porsche and Maserati of course! As if this experience wasn't grand enough, come Formula 1 time the glitterati levels rise exponentially. Celebrities, royals and the top of the rich list visit Monaco to soak up the high octane excitement with Monaco Grand Prix packages. Depending on the budget you have set aside for the experience it is possible to charter one of the most expensive yachts in the world, travel by Lear jet, opt for helicopter transfer, or to warm up for the big race, by hiring a supercar.

Monaco Grand Prix packages have been created to offer those who have everything the thrill of a lifetime. As well as being waited on by the best hosts along the south coast of France, guests have the opportunity to meet the drivers in a special tour, party with them afterwards at a VIP event, stay in some of the most sought after berths aboard a luxury yacht and let's not forget - experience firsthand one of the most prestigious events in the sporting calendar. The very strange thing about Monaco Grand Prix packages is that you don't necessarily have to be a fan of the sport to enjoy them. Armed with ear defenders (because believe me - you need them) it is possible to soak up the sun on a hospitality balcony or the deck of a super yacht and get in on the F1 action when it suits you. It is a surreal experience for someone who is neither rich nor famous, but I can assure you - worth every penny.

Advice on cruises......?

Hi there,
My mum, sister and myself are looking to book a cruise for next year in the Mediterranean or Caribbean. We are looking to use P&O cruises or Royal Caribbean. As we have never been on a cruise before, we are not sure which time of year is best to go - also, when is the best time to book the cruise (we have been told to book it 2weeks before the holiday to get best deal - is this true?) or is it better to book it now for next year. We were looking to go about March - May time for 9-10nights. Any other advice is welcome, or reviews of the two companies.
Hope you can help and thanks in advance for your answers!
Oh and also roughly how much do they cost pp? Thank you for your answers so far.

UK reply
You need to narrow your choices!

Choosing between Mediterranean and Caribbean is like chalk and cheese! You don't say if you are American or European, your use of Mum instead of Mom suggest UK?

Caribbean is a selection of Americanised tropical islands. Remember at most stops there will be 3-5 other ships there EVERY day so it can get very crowded on shore in small islands!
Mediterranean is about culture/history seeing places you know about but have never visited i.e. Leaning Tower of Pisa, Venice etc.

RC and P&O are completely different.
RC is for the masses, with lots of kids and lots of on-board entertainment and HUGE ships = crowds/queues for everything.
P&O is mainly adults (some ships no kids allowed) and very much "country house style" for British older travellers. You will get steak and kidney pie etc. as a choice on the P&O menu!

Cost? look at their websites for top line pricing and amenities/cabin details etc. Then get - for example - Saturday Daily Mail where there are hundreds of cruise travel agents - to get idea of discounted pricing.

Late booking will not necessarily get you better prices, although March - May is shoulder period so ship will probably not be full and you might get a bargain.
Booking early is best if you want specific cabin (i.e with balcony etc.) as these tend to go first.
If you leave it until later it will mainly be inside cabins (no windows and lower decks!) left which were used for promotional purposes earlier - i.e buy an inside and we upgrade you to sea view.

Email if you want more help once you start narrowing things down!

Cheapest/Best Cruise Deals?

I am planning on getting married in March, and we would like to take a cruise and just get married on the cruise, however everywhere I ook there is so many options. We would like to go Eastern Caribbean, but we are flexible to anywhere in the caribbean...where is a safe, reliable place to get the cheapest rates? Also, we were thinking about leaving from Fort Lauderdale, but really we could leave from anywhere on the east coast...where is a good place with the most options to depart from? Baltimore? New York? Please Help....any previous experiences with these would be great! Thanks! (:

Congratulations! My sister got married on a cruise ship and it was awesome! Here are some cruise lines that I have been on that I would recommend. Royal Caribbean and Carnival. THey are all great, However it all depends on you and your soon to be husband. If you are a younger couple looking for fun you should go on Carnival or if you have younger kids go on Carnival. Also if you don't mind waiting for three hours! However if you are a older couple or sometimes even a younger couple go on Royal Caribbean, or if you have older kids. Also if you don't like waiting all the time go on Royal Caribbean (they have to get everyone off and on the ship in three hours! Unlike Carnival you get there at 7 a.m and have to wait for hours to just get off the ship. So it all depends on if you are a younger couple with younger kids or and older couple with older kids, and if you don't like waiting or if you don't mind waiting.

All of the places in the Caribbean are awesome, however if you go to Jamaica don't shake any ones hands there or they might slip drugs in your hand and the police will catch you and you won't be able to get back on the cruise ship. But other then that it is very beautiful!

The best rates are on the websites royalcaribbeanvoyages.com, icruise.com, cruisecritic.com, cruisenow.com, cruise.com, vacationstogo.com, or if you have a travel agent you can go there.

Fort Lauderdale is a fun place to leave out of, because you can also go to Disney World (if you are the kind of person who would like to do that kind of thing.) Also Galvestion is a good place to go out of (that's where we usualy leave from because we live in Texas. Plus it's a cheeper port to leave out of.)

Our experiences with Carnival hasn't been as good as Royal Caribbean. Royal Caribbean is so much nicer and cleaner. The people are a lot nicer too!

~ Hope it helps and have fun! And Congratulations! (again!)

Thassos is an exotic Greek island in the Aegean Sea and it is situated a few kilometers away from the continent, 20 kilometers southeast from Kavala. If you travel from the nearest, to the island link (Keramoti) it will be a cheap and quick ferry travel around 30 minutes. The season in Thassos is nearly 2 months shorter than the one in Keramoti - from the second half of May to the first half of September. During the peak of the season (July and August) there are sometimes cool winds and rains because the island is completely surrounded by water. There are many hotel houses you can rent.

The ancient Greek legend tells us that this place is one of the most erotic adventures of Zeus. The Phoenician king Aginor had three sons: Phoenix, Siliks and Cadmus and one daughter called Europa. One summer day, Zeus transformed into a bull and took away Europa to a cave in the island Crete. After the act, three sons were born - Minos, the famous king of Crete, Radamantos, the wise lawmaker and Sarpidon, the first king of ancient Litsiya. While hidden in the island of Crete, Europa was enjoying the caress of Zeus, her father Aginor sent his three sons and his only grandson Thassos to find Europa and told them to search until they find her. All head in different directions - Phoenix head south, Siliks head north, Cadmus searched over the islands. But even the advices of the famous oracle of Delphi didn't help them to find Europa. After searching in many places the young Thassos arrived on the island and charmed by the greenery and the nice climate, he decided to stay here and that how the island got its name.

Another legend tells us that this remarkable place was once home of beautiful creatures, half women half fish called sirens. Those mermaids were singing beautiful songs and thus casting a spell on the passing by sailors. And due to this legend Thassos is the place where the sirens tried to divert Ulysses from his path.

When you travel around the island you will see the many olive trees, the endless pine tree forests, various beautiful pictures where the green trees are mixing with the blue water. But there is some shortage of long beach - you can enjoy the many small ones. But when you travel around Thassos you will find the many remarkable bays which are sometimes hard to reach. It seems that, these hidden positions, has kept them natural and beautiful, because the bus with tourist can hardly reach these spots.

If you are looking for peaceful vacation on some exotic place, then the island of Thassos can offer you just what you want. It is a remarkable place surrounded by water, with nice climate and still preserved the magic from the ancient times. You won't be disappointed if you visit this wonderful place in Greece.

Best digital camera?

Hello,

I am looking for a good camera with professional results. I will be taking pictures in the Caribbean on a regular basis so it has to be great with landscapes and zooming. I will also be traveling in England and will be taking both landscape and close up pictures (people). I would also like to have one that keeps dust off the lens (vibrates) effectively because I will be spending a month in desert areas of Africa.

I know this is a lot of information but I really need this camera a soon as possible. As for the weigh, It does not really matter and my budget goes up to 1200$ CAN.

Thanks a lot!

If you're looking for professional results and weight isn't a concern, your best bet will be a decent lens on a consumer digital SLR camera. I mention the lens first because the quality of your shots will be determined by the glass in front of the camera, not the camera itself. For the most part, all DSLR's on the market from all the major camera manufacturers are going to take professional quality pictures if a good photographer is using good glass with them. When searching for a lens, a great website to check out is www.slrgear.com. Find the lens(es) that would suit you in both price and quality, and then choose a camera to go with it. I very very rarely used zoom lenses, I normally go with fixed focal lens (no zooming) for their quality, but I can attest to the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 as being a high quality piece of glass.

As for the camera, the consumer-level offerings of Canon (400D/450D), Nikon (D80), Olympus (E-510), and Pentax (K10D/K20D) will all be great choices. Canon and Nikon will be more readily available because these are the two biggest camera manufacturers. These are most often the systems used by professionals because of the huge selection of lenses and accessories available. Both Olympus and Pentax offer the most camera for your buck, but that's countered with the fact that you may have issues finding professional lenses to go with your camera if you ever decide to get into more specialized niches. One thing I do have to say for the Pentax K10D and K20D is that both have excellent weather sealing against dust and water, which sounds like that could be useful in your travels to distant lands. This weather sealing is available for other cameras, but the Canon and Nikon equivalents will cost more than your budget for just the camera. A great website that I always use for reviews on camera bodies is www.dpreview.com

Washington DC lies in the middle of the eastern seaboard of America and is nearly 90 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. It sits on the northern banks of the Potomac River and the city spreads across the side of the river up to the hills in the north.

Washington DC's highest point is 390 feet above sea level in the Northwest of the city. Rock Creek is a tributary of the Potomac and it flows through the middle of the city running from north to south.

Spring is the most popular season for tourists to visit Washington DC as it has mild temperatures. The cherry trees also blossom at this time of the year and many tourists come especially to see this spectacular site. It is estimated that over twenty million visitors a year visit this world famous city.

Due to the ever growing number of tourists, there has been a growth in the number of holiday homes available for rental direct from their owners. Many visitors now find that the concept of renting a holiday home is far more appealing than staying in an impersonal hotel. These holiday lets are ideal for families and enable them to sample the true culture of the local area.

In the summer it is hot and humid and can be quite tiring for the first time visitor who has a long list of attractions that they want to visit. In order to help overcome the hot weather, many attractions now operate for longer hours during the summer months.

In recent years Fall has become a popular time to visit the city. Temperatures are far more agreeable and there are not as many crowds as during the summer. Many visitors are stunned by the elegant beauty of the foliage dropping of the trees.

Winter months can be very unpredictable weather wise. Temperatures can fluctuate from the high 40s and then drop well below freezing. However sever snow storms do not occur very often.

The city itself is shaped like a diamond and is separated from Virginia by the Potomac. It covers an area of 67 square miles and is divided into four areas.

Most tourists come to Washington DC to visit the White House. It has been home to America's First Families for over two centuries. Every year in the first week of December, the president carries out the lighting of the National Christmas Tree. Tourists flock to Washington DC for this event and during the rest of the month of December gather on the Ellipse.

The White House organises a series of public annual events which draw huge crowds each year. A popular event is the annual Easter Egg Roll which is held on the Monday after Easter on the White House lawn.

There are also guided tours of the famous gardens in April and October. Probably the most popular event is the Christmas candlelight tours that are held over three evenings in late December. All of these events are free and as a result are extremely popular. It is advisable to get there well in advance to avoid disappointment.

going on first holiday with baby.............?

going on first holiday with baby, tomorrow! she's 4 months (i've asked this a while ago) any advice .......?? on what i cant forget????

i'm going to caribbean!!

Bring:
* Plenty of diapers, wipes, formula (if you use it), bottles, nipples for the bottles, juice, blankets, changes of clothes, stuff for bath time, sunscreen, stroller, and any toys he/she likes. Make sure you have access to any/all of that while traveling.

If you'll be flying, either have bottles already made or bring bottled water so you can make a bottle during the flight (if you're using formula). Having the baby either feed or suck on a pacifier during take off and landing will help with their ears popping.

Make sure you keep yourself hydrated and well-fed, as well. Travel can be crazy on your body even without a baby with you.

Most importantly, have fun!

Edit: We have never had a problem bringing already-made bottles onto the plane. As long as you have the baby with you and put the bottles in the plastic, see-through, ziplock bags like you do for all other liquids/gels, and they see that it's formula, you'll be fine.

Salmonsdam Nature Reserve, run by Cape Nature, is a small nature reserve not far from Stanford in the Western Cape in South Africa. There are three hiking trails available.

The longest is a Mountain Trail from the foot of the Perdeberg mountain and at the top they say that there's a view over Walker Bay (thats for sure, as you can see Walker Bay from virtually any point in the reserve), and the country towns of Caledon and Bredasdorp. The second trail is the 4km Ravine Trail through Keeromskloof and through small patches of indigenous forest. The final trail is the Waterfall Trail of about 3km through thick fynbos down to the falls and back. All three trails have short links so experienced and fit hikers could tackle all three in a day.

As a far too heavy 62 year old on a severe diet that includes at least an hours walking or biokinetics a day, the logical thing to do after 10 weeks of the regime was to do a bit of hiking, so we set off one beautiful Saturday morning to Salmonsdam.

We did part of the ravine trail but turned back where it joins the mountain trail. The piece we did do was fairly easy but the next stage seemed fairly difficult, although probably not difficult at all for experienced hikers. The fact that Salmonsdam hiking routes don't feature strongly on hiking and related sites confirms that assumption. I think if I'd had a walking stick I would have gone further. So we'll have to back at some stage.

There are very basic facilities at Salmonsdam Nature Reserve for overnight camping including a few small chalets. There is an ablution block and 10 camping sites.

Around the South east edge of the reserve is a "mountain drive": which leads far up into the Perdeberg and meets up with the Mountain trail. I was expecting to be able to drive to the top in an ordinary motor vehicle (a Mercedes C- class) but it seems that only 4X4 vehicles or perhaps even 4X2 LUV's will be able to reach the summit with any ease.

Flora and Fauna is varied and the reserve is a good example of a mountain catchment area. We spent an entire morning in the reserve and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's often used as a training site for school children because of the catchment area is so easily visible. Baboons and other small mammals are often seen in the reserve. We saw signs of the baboons feasting on freshly open Protea flowers and also flowers from a Protea that flowers just below the surface.

Salmonsdam was named after Captain Robert Salmond of HMS Birkenhead which sank just a few short miles from Salmonsdam on 26th February 1852 when around 450 sailors and soldiers lost their lives. from that tragic event came the now famous call of "Women and Children First' and the "Birkenhed Drill"

Getting There.

From Cape Town go to Hermanus on the N2 and R43 and then to Stanford on the R43. As you enter Stanford turn left onto the Caledon Road (R326). From the intersection go 4.4km until you reach the "Papiesvlei, Elim" turnoff to your right. From here on the roads are gravel. the road condition is not good and caution should be exercised.Travel approx 6km on this gravel road and then turn left at the Salmonsdam turnoff. Travel for approx 3.5 kms. You will pass the entrance to a property called Beloftebos and 1.5 km from there you will reach Salmonsdam Nature Reserve.

caribbean cruises passport

caribbean cruises passport

A US passport is one of the most important documents an American citizen can possess, especially if he or she plans to travel abroad. Since the inauguration of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, a valid passport has been required for all Americans to exit and return to the United States, independent of age. A passport is now required for travel to Mexico, Canada, Bermuda and the Caribbean region.

Passport Pages

A regular tourist passport book has 24 pages. Inside the front cover is the personal data page. Besides the applicant's photo, the page contains information such as passport type, passport number, full name, date of birth, sex, place of birth, date of issuance and date of expiration. The applicant's address is not included in the passport so there is no need to update the document after a move.

The first page of the passport is the signature page. Upon receipt, the person to whom the passport was issued should sign the document. The signature can be either first and last name or full name. The signature page contains a declaration by the Secretary of State of the United States that the bearer should be permitted "to pass without delay or hindrance".

Pages 2 and 3 contain information about requesting corrections in case of errors and tips for traveling abroad. Pages 4 and 5 provide information concerning important issues that international travelers should be aware of such as security threats, laws, taxes, loss of U.S. citizenship and dual citizenship. Page 6 has important information about your passport such as unlawful use, loss, theft and damage. Page 7 has space for personal data and emergency contact information.

The actual visa pages in a passport book are numbered from 8 to 24. This means that there are only 16 visa pages. Since many visas now take up an entire page and most countries require from 2-4 pages before issuing a visa, the passport book will not last long if you frequently make international trips.

Passport Validity

There are a couple of factors that can affect the validity of a passport. One if the age of the applicant and the other is the situation in which the passport is issued.

Regular passports issued to minors age 15 or younger are valid for 5 years. Those issued to adults age 16 or older are valid for 10 years. Emergency passports issued outside the United States to American citizens whose travel document has been lost or stolen have a limited validity. This can range from a few months up to a year.

It is important to understand that many, but not all, countries require a specific number of month's validity remaining in a passport before they will issue a visa or allow entrance. Most common is a 6 month validity requirement although only 3 months is required for visits countries that are party to the Schengen agreement. Verify the entry and exit requirements for each country you plan to visit in order to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Passport Processing

Passport processing is done at regional agencies located in several major cities of the United States. Routine processing takes between 4 and 6 weeks. Expedited service takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks. These are estimates and change depending on the demand at the time. Applicants who need passport faster can schedule an appointment to personally submit applications at a regional agency or go through an experienced passport expediting service. Applications processed through either of these methods can be completed as quickly as the same day.

It is always a good idea to start the application process early, especially if you plan to travel during the summer or holidays. The number of applications submitted increases significantly and so does the processing time. Avoid unnecessary complications. Apply for your passport today.

Generally when considering cruise popularity you will find that it is determined by a number of things, which can include how convenient it is to reach the cruise liner from your home, whether you have a young family, your age, whether it your first time or if you are single or married.

It is therefore wise to ask yourself what you expect from a cruise before making a decision. Are you looking for black tie glamour, informal luxury, to travel only with people your own age, plenty of entertainment, beautiful surroundings and nature, a good deal or activity and are you traveling on a shoestring?

That is why the top ten cruise destinations are based on previous experience and include cruise holidays in a variety of temperate zones. In effect, there is something here for everyone:

Hawaii

The Hawaiian Islands are a tropical paradise everyday of the year with its green clad volcanic cliffs and awe-inspiring tropical fauna and flora. Visit the magical Dolphin Cove, the fascinating Sealife Park and of course the Polynesian Cultural Centre.

The Caribbean

The best time to cruise the Caribbean is in January and February as the weather is perfect most days, but there is often threat of hurricanes from Mid June to the beginning of December. You can visit all the Caribbean islands as there is only a short distance between each of them, but the Caribbean is not as tropically lush as Hawaii.

Antarctica

Cruises to Antarctica are usually expensive so not suited to those on a low budget and cruise ships do not operate in the Antarctic winter, from March to September. These cruises combine a unique blend of comfort and adventure with soaring glacier cliffs, icebergs and penguin colonies.

The Mediterranean

The warmest months and the best time for sun seekers to visit the mediterrannean is from May to September. It should be noted that many of the

ports are often very busy during the summer, but there are certainly a large amount of destinations worth visiting, including the Greek Islands, Costa del Sol, Liguria Coast and the French Riviera.

Fjords of Norway

The best time to visit the Fjords of Norway is from June to August when it is not so cold. Cruises around these natural wonders are breathtakingly beautiful and humbling, as you sail inside enormous, yet narrow fjords surrounded by high cliffs.

Alaska

The best time to cruise to Alaska is in the warmest months of June to August, as daylight is longer for sightseeing and taking photographs. It's a special place to cruise by glaciers and snow caped jagged peaks on your way to numerous photogenic ports.

Mexico

November to April is the best time to cruise to Mexico, as they are cooler, dryer and less humid than the summer months. This is not the destination for those looking to relax, as Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco and the other ports of call on the Mexican Riviera are full of life and music.

South Pacific

The South Pacific covers a broad area and its destinations include the fertile tropical paradises such as Fiji and Tahiti.

Galapagos

The Galapagos Island are home to giant tortoises, seal lions, penguins, fur seals, marine iguanas and are a place that Charles Darwin visited to observe the unique wildlife.

The Baltic Sea

A cruise to the Baltic Sea is not for the faint hearted in the colder months, but June to august is ideal for visiting Tallinn, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Stockholm.
