Anguilla is located in the Caribbean and it is a British Colony. The capital of this English speaking island is called The Valley and it carries the Greenwich Mean Time - 4. The head of the island, that is, the leader of the governing party, is usually called Chief Minister and not Prime Minister and presently this person is Mr. Osbourne Fleming.

In the Caribbean, some of the smaller islands, for example, Trinidad and Tobago are grouped together and this was the case with St. Kitts and Nevis, that is, until 1980. In December of that year Anguilla was separated from St. Kitts and Nevis.

Amerindians, who had ventured from South America, were the first people to have inhabited here and some of their dishes are still enjoyed by many. Some time after, the British, as well as the French also enter.

With its own currency, that is East Caribbean dollar, tourism and the exporting of lobsters and fish helps to sustain it.

People from around the world visit this beautiful place, to enjoy the sun and sands of Captain Bay, Island Habour and Sandy Ground, which are some of the names of its magnificent beaches. In fact, there are about thirty-three beaches to be enjoyed.

Although this island, which is the most northerly of the Leeward Islands, is only 102km square, it offers a lot of outdoor activities. Obviously, there are the many beaches to discover and the water sports such as windsurfing, which comes along with it. Additionally, there is hiking, bird watching, horseback riding and biking.

Walking around Coptic or Old Cairo is an experience of being transplanted in time. Once known as the Roman stronghold of Babylon, Coptic Cairo is the oldest part of the city. The earliest settlement here dates back to the 6th century BC, where later the Romans built the fortress of Babylon.

After the spread of Christianity in Egypt, Coptic Cairo became a Christian stronghold, where over 20 churches were built in an area of just 1 square mile - of these, five remain. Today, churches, monasteries, convents and even a synagogue dot the area, all predating modern Cairo.

The word "Copt" taken from the ancient Egyptian word Ha Kaptah was one of the names for ancient Memphis, one of the capitals of Egypt. After their conquest of Egypt in 64AD, the Arabs used its Arabic equivalent, Gypt, for the population of Egypt. In contemporary usage, "Coptic" refers to Egyptian Christians.

The history of Coptic Cairo reflects the history of Christianity in Egypt. Though Saint Mark the Evangelists is considered the founder of the Christian Church in Egypt, traditionally it begins with the story of the holy family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus who traveled to Egypt and lived there for a time. On of the five churches, the Sergius and Bacchus Church, is built upon the crypt where the holy family took refuge.

Of the five remaining churches, the most famous is St. Virgin Mary's Church, better known as the Hanging Church. Built in the 7th century AD above an older church, it literally hangs between two Roman towers. It is an amazing structure with a lovely ceiling depicting Noah's Ark, heavy doors inlaid with ebony and ivory, a 13 huge marble pillars representing the 12 apostles and Christ.

Other churches and convents in this district, traditionally blessed by the holy family include the Church of St. George, the Church of Virgin Mary and the Church of Mercurius. Coptic Cairo also houses the Ben Ezra synagogue, the oldest synagogue in Egypt. Considered a possible location where Moses was found on the Nile by Pharaoh's daughter, and where Jeremiah came after being exiled, it is ridden with biblical history.

The Coptic Museum, established in 1908, exhibits a vast variety of artifacts from the late Roman Empire through the Islamic era, including re--creations of monasteries and churches, and ancient dress. It exhibits a fascinating history of this area.

Another area of Coptic Cairo holds the cemetery, a peaceful and strangely beautiful place. It houses mausoleums that look like miniature churches, tombs carved with pictures of its occupants and pools of cooled wax from burnt candles. Unlike the rest of bustling, noisy, honking Cairo, here the sounds of silence prevail.

Coptic Cairo, a near-forgotten ancient jewel flooded with attractions is a place not to be missed when visiting Egypt.

Mombasa Island on the Kenya coast and the nearby Diani Beach in Ukunda are mostly known as beach destinations that offer world-class tropical beach vacations to hundreds of visitors each year. In comparison, the nearby Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary may not enjoy equal limelight but still offers a unique complimentary opportunity for holidaymakers in this coastal town.

Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a private sanctuary that covers slightly over 28,000 acres and is next to Tsavo National Park. It is just 200kilometres from Mombasa and a gentle 30-minute flight from Nairobi. This proximity makes the sanctuary an ideal destination for those who might want to combine a beach vacation with a short safari.

Needless to say, if you can afford a few more days - say 3 or 4 days, you can add on Tsavo Park and Amboseli National Parks and enjoy even more of Kenya's wildlife. Your safari operator will be happy to organize this kind of tour, giving you a short break from the sun and sand indulgence.

The sanctuary is arguably one of the success stories in sustainable and responsible wildlife tourism. Records indicate that the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary has more than 50 species of large mammals and 300 bird species. Sarova Hotels, the hotel chain that currently runs the sanctuary and also manages the 2 safari hotels found within the sanctuary, are committed to ensure that the wildlife thrives and that it will continue to prosper in the future.

Accommodation at Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary

The two lodges located within the sanctuary - The Sarova Taita Hills and Sarova Saltlick Lodge - provide a unique destination for an ideal wildlife-viewing destination that is perfect and accessible all year round.

Sarova Taita Hills Game Lodge stands aloft a raised ridge capturing an impressive view of the surrounding hills. The lodge has 62 beautifully appointed rooms including two suite, swimming pool, spacious lobby, boutique, restaurant, meeting rooms and a conference hall.

Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge features a truly unique architectural concept an imaginative reproduction of the local populaces' traditional abodes, consisting of 96 distinctively luxurious oval-shaped rooms, all overlooking a waterhole which attracts a large array of wildlife, including and especially elephants. In the evenings the animals gather at the waterhole - a spectacular site to behold, to drink and lick the salt spread round the watering hole.

These two magnificent game lodges are sited in a fully integrated wildlife safari resort complex with a private airstrip. The complex also has grounds for a golf course

If you find yourself among the hundreds on the beach in Mombasa, Diani or even Malindi and still get the urge to take part on a wildlife safari, consider a short safari to one of the most wildlife-rich private sanctuaries in Kenya - the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary Complex. With a minimum of 1 night you can see sample some of Kenya's best wildlife while on your beach vacation in Kenya.

Why do people think all west indians are black?

Okay so there is this sterotype going around that all jamaicans are black, all trinis are black and like all guyanese are indian. This is not true people from the west indies come in all different color, shapes and forms. like u have black jamaicans, white jamaicans, asian jamaicans and even coolie(aka indian) jamaicans. same with all the other islands in the caribbean. so why are people so quick to think like that?

Simple because they are looking at skin color and are really uneducated beyond what they see on TV or any media. They didnt do the research themselves. From the mouth of a Jarican half jamaican half puerto rican but it is just easier to call myself black

How safe is Antigua (Island in Caribbean)?

I have a vacation planned for April in Antigua, it looks amazing. I'm a safe traveler (keep little cash on me, lock up valuables, keep room locked etc) but I've heard of a few issues in Antigua and I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts. In 2008 I heard of a couple being murdered in their sleep. Just since I've booked my trip I've been reading the local paper online and I've seen articles about robbery, armed robbery and a recent murder. For such a small island with a low population I'm wondering how safe it is. Any thoughts?

Well I have a house in Antigua. I would say that depending on where you are it is safe. It sounds like you are a smart traveler as long as you aren't doing something against common sense then you should be fine. During the day you can go around the island, but during the night I wouldn't walk the streets by yourself. When I go to Antigua I feel safe but that is also because I am aware of the surroundings and where I am. Have fun and safe travels!

Is there a place where I can get some Caribbean culture and food in Nashville after I graduate from college? ?

This place seems to be void of Caribbean food and culture in the main scene of Nashville. Whenever I want to get some food, I have to drive all the way to Antioch. Is there something that I am missing? And PLEASE do not mention Calypso Cafe because that is not authentic and an insult to the food of the Caribbean islands. If you know of anything, or have suggestions, please let me know. Thank you!!!

I've been to Nashville & did not see any Caribbean restaurants.
