I am looking to purchase an affordable vacation home, in a family friendly tropical environment. Any suggestions? I am thinking in the Caribbean. It would need to be a location easily accessible from Canada. 2 or 3 bedrooms, preferably a house, but condos are considered. By affordable, I mean no more than USD 200 000
Thank you
My little bit of advise.
Rent first. You can rent homes, extremely affordable, even large condos.
Ex: Puerto Rico
You want to know the area well before you buy.
You want to make sure there is little crime, be aware of how slow things move.
Also how expensive furniture is, since it has to be shipped.
Rent in about 5 areas (each vacation you take, stay somewhere different).
No need to buy.
And in actuallilty if you run the numbers sometimes it is much cheaper to rent than to buy.
(the same sized apartments or condos).
This will avoid that after you own the home for 4 or 5 years you won't hate the area and then sell.
This could be a financial disaster...

Can you use Disney transportation if you aren't staying on Disney property? Where can I find the exact routes
I am considering staying within the "gates" but not on Disney property. I think we could walk to the Caribbean resort from our condo. Can I take the bus from there to the theme parks or do I have to be staying there? How do they know? Do you need to flash a card or wrist band?
AND - Is there a web site listing the routes of the buses, boats & monorail? I'm trying to figure out how we can get around without taking the car & paying parking.
Thanks!!!
I think I know which condo you are talking about walking distance to Carribean beach hotel. Believe me you cannot walk this. The roadway to the condo is a 1/2 mile long then from the cross st. another half mile to the Carribean beach hotel no sidewalk.
Each Disney hotel has a specific bus/transportation to each of their 4 major theme parks + water parks / downtown disney. You do not need a pass or ticket to use them

Looking for vacation ideas for March 2009 (for roughly 10 days of travel)?
Wife and I are looking to take a trip. Want it to be beach based so looking at Caribbean, Hawaii, or Latin America. Don't want it to be completely resort based as we like adventure (sky diving, zip lining, etc) but like the option to golf as well. Also like the idea of a hotel that has 3 wall rooms with epic views. Anyone know of any places that can encompass all of this or come close?
The idea of owning a timeshare is not a new one, but over the years, the concept has changed. One used to think of a timeshare as a house on the beach or in a resort area that was owned collectively by a group of people. In addition, it meant going to the same place and quite likely at the very same time every year. That concept has now changed, and many people are buying timeshares with companies who offer them in a variety of places. The single owners' variety of timeshare property is almost outdated.
The modern concept of the timeshare is for companies that offer timeshares in luxury resorts with all of the amenities to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. These types of timeshare are often scattered across the globe or in several different resorts, allowing the owners to choose where they wish to send his portion of the timeshare package that year.
Time share deals are being widely offered by big companies like:
Marriott,
Disney,
Hilton,
Hyatt,
Four Seasons
Starwood.
Fairfield Resort
Westgate
In addition there are timeshare exchange programs such as:
· RCI is a subsidiary of Cedant Corporation which excels in exchange vacations. It is an organization whose concept allows members to discover new vacation spots and enjoy holidaying around the world. The membership of the organization continues to enhance the quality of timeshare vacation ownership. It has more than 3 million members around the world who are given RCI time shares to enjoy dream vacations at 3,700 affiliated timeshare resorts.
· Interval International is a Quality Timeshare Vacation Exchange Network. It is one of the leading timeshare exchange companies in the world and has over 2,000 timeshare resorts and over 1.5 million member families worldwide.
Benefits of the right timeshare deal
Time share deals may include condominiums that have kitchens. This will allow you to cook your own food while on a vacation that can save you up to $100 per day. Or if you really want to enjoy your dream vacation, time share resorts also offer personal chefs in your unit. This service is available and if you purchase it, an additional payment is required.
Timeshare deals are one-time deals but they can be exchanged or sold to other investors. You can freely choose when you want to sell your timeshare ownership. Take note that the time share resort does not give any of your money back. That is why, the best option is to exchange or sell it for a new one.
So whether you want to enjoy the warm sands in the sunny beaches of the Caribbean or ski a powder packed slope in the mountains of Switzerland, time share deals bring you the advantages of your dream vacation. Don't wait any longer. As soon as you choose what and where you want, you can find the perfect timeshare deal that suits your holiday needs.
One of the most frequent holiday searches made on the internet is for holiday homes in Spain to rent. For winter villa rentals in Spain holidaymakers often choose one of the Canary Islands especially the fabulous island of Fuerteventura. A lot of people now use the internet to book their own self catering apartments to rent in Spain direct from the owners. One of the features which draw people to Fuerteventura is the plethora of long beautiful beaches and the watersports which are available. If you are looking for holiday homes in Spain for rental this winter, the three main resorts of Jandia, Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste cater for every budget.
Fuerteventura's coastal ledge contributes to the shallow depth of the water and the astonishing light blue colour with a tint of green which is not quite turquoise. Windsurfing is the island's foremost sport albeit the majority of participants are foreign. Fuerteventura's coasts do attract hundreds if not thousands of enthusiasts as this combination of a regular warm wind and sun makes it ideal place to participate in this sport and the experts in their field rank it as one of the best places in the world to practice windsurfing. Renting holiday homes in Spain in Fuerteventura can be expensive when the windsurfing world championships take place, these are held on the Jandia beach and as long as these unique conditions continue Fuerteventura will be for a long time the Mecca for wind surfers.
Another popular water sport in Fuerteventura is scuba diving. Fuerteventura is perfect for a diving holiday with its clear waters and consistent temperatures (the water temperature around the Canary Islands ranges from 18 to 22 degrees). The clear blue waters around the island are a delight for those who enjoy swimming amongst the sea life. There are many diving centres on the island and they all run courses for divers with different levels of ability. Self catering apartments to rent in Spain or villa rentals in Spain booked direct are ideal if you wanted a base for a diving holiday in Fuerteventura.
Travelling to the Canary Islands is relatively easy and many of the budget airlines have flights available to Fuerteventura, with a flying time of about four hours from the UK. The only airport is situated near to the capital of Puerto Rosario - on the east coast. Holiday homes in Spain especially self catering apartments to rent in Spain are readily available in the main tourist resorts of Corralejo, Caleta del Fuste and Jandia.
If you rent your holiday homes in Spain in Fuerteventura for a family holiday you will find that there are plenty of great days out to be had. Family attractions include the Baku Water Park and village near Corralejo and the Fuerteventura Zoo in the south of the island (about an hour and a half by car from Corralejo). For those who are interested in natural attractions, why not visit to the Dunes (El Jable) just outside Corralejo or the Jandia National Park in the south of the island.
The main town in Fuerteventura is Puerto del Rosario, which is on the eastern side of the island. Many tourists look for privately owned holiday homes in Spain to rent here, as they find it very convenient for local amenities. If you choose villa rentals in Spain in this town you should visit the old harbour area which has some interesting architecture typical of the Canary Islands.
Where would be the cheapest place in the caribbean to buy a vacation home?
We just got back from St. John and loved it. The homes where a bit $$..but also can make a lot of money renting them out. Any suggestions?
I agree about Belize. The Mexican construction is headed all the way down the Yucatan coast almost to the border. Belize is an up and coming destination. The economy is stable and they accept dollars routinely in transactions.
