1. The Economy.

European holidaymakers have begun to realise that their yearly trip to the Caribbean for some winter sun is just not financially astute. If holidaymakers can still afford to go abroad they are looking closer to home.

Holidays in the UK have seen a massive increase alongside the Canary Islands, where they are possibly not as exotic as the Caribbean, many families are left with little choice.

2. Flight Costs.

An increase in the costs of fuel almost always leads to flight operators increasing their prices, many people have seen low budget airlines decrease baggage weight limits and charge for the most preposterous things. All in a vain attempt to recover lost costs.

As a result long haul flights are nowhere near as popular, with some providers actually closing down redundant flights instead of adding more.

3. Crime.

Now I'm not saying that the Caribbean is some crime hot-spot but there have been some high profile crimes committed recently which is always going to reflect badly on the area as a whole, with many U.S  developers using Mexican workers instead of Caribbean citizens for building work the gap between the rich and the poor has dramatically increased. This has resulted in a them and us scenario which breeds discontent in some areas.

The Result.

If you are based in Europe and wish for some winter sun you have probably already looked at Cape Verde.

Viewed by many as a European Caribbean, a creole culture, fantastic white sandy beaches and year round sun makes this collection of island s a must for the quintessential holidaymaker.

If you are after more than Irish Pubs and Mediocre beaches Cape Verde is worth a visit.

Investment Opportunities.

For investors looking for a base abroad along with a great yield and fantastic capital growth, Dunas Beach Resort offers all of this and much much more.

With property prices growing 15% per annum investors face the possibility of mortgaging their off-plan purchase in 2 years time and actually recouping your deposit leaving you with a property that not only pays for itself through rental but has actually cost you nothing!

The magnificent twin ships from Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, the Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, are about as similar as two ships can be! Same length, same breadth, same tonnage, amazing public spaces including seven distinct neighborhoods, heavenly staterooms and soothing spas. Yet there are certain areas in which these twins show their individuality, namely in some new shopping and dining venues.

One of the outstanding changes is the addition of a Brazilian-style steakhouse called Samba Grill on the Allure of the Seas. By day the area is a cafe in the adult only solarium. By night, the Solarium is transformed into a true churrascari with both indoor and outdoor seating, authentic Brazilian meats and seafood offerings carved table side, as well as lively music and specialty drinks. There is also a buffet with soups, appetizers and salad. The charge is $25 pp to eat at Samba Grill, and this does not include any beverages or alcoholic drinks.

Replacing the Seafood Shack from the Oasis, the Allure offers Rita's Cantina, a vibrant new Mexican restaurant in the Boardwalk neighborhood. The offerings include ceviche, chips with salsa and guacamole, as well as fajitas, tacos and flautas, a veritable fiesta on the Allure of the Seas. Let's not forget the margaritas. There's a selection of more than 15 different flavors to choose from, of course these have to be purchased separately. The charge to dine is $7.95 per person, and you can order as much as you'd like. Rita's also offers evenings of Latin delights with live guitar music, dancing and delightful libations. At least once per 7 day cruise, Rita's will have a Fiesta package available. For $20 pp you get 3 margaritas, tastings of various foods, party gifts and live entertainment.

Not to be outdone by the south of the border crowd, the Boardwalk area will also sport a new snack bar called the Boardwalk Dog House. It's pretty obvious what this venue will have to offer, but you get more than a variety of hot dogs including the ever popular Coney Island dog. Also available are brats, sausages and lots of toppings. This Dog House will occupy the space held by the Donut Shop on the Oasis of the Sea, but fear not, the Donut Shop has not been displaced, just relocated next to the Ice Cream Parlor right across the way.

Also unique to the Allure of the Seas are several venues that are a first on any cruise ship. Enjoy Starbucks at sea open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, shop at the new Guess store selling accessories including watches, belts and purses or shop for paintings and sculptures at the Romeo Britto store.

The Oasis of the Seas offers their rendition of the Broadway play, Hairspray. The Allure of the Seas cast performs the musical Chicago. The ice shows are different, with the Allure using the cast of the film How to Train Your Dragon. Comedy club, jazz and piano bars, a sports bar and various lounges can be found on both ships.

The Allure of the Seas was also the first RCI ship to feature a 3D movie screen at sea. The picture quality and sound are excellent. Various movies are shown during a 7 day cruise. Sorry folks, no popcorn but you can go grab a slice of pizza or cookies on Deck 5 before heading over to the movie. For the best view, enter through deck 4.

Last but not least, the Allure of the Seas was the first ship to feature characters from various DreamWorks movies including Shrek, KungFu Panda and Madagascar. Characters participate in a sail away party, parades and are available for pictures and a character breakfast as well. Dreamworks characters will also be featured on the Oasis of the Seas beginning in April 2011.

So much to do, so little time! You'll never find so many outstanding dining, snacking, noshing, nibbling, grazing and feasting experiences as you will on the Allure of the Seas, unless you're sailing with her twin, the Oasis of the Seas.

Where should I go on my honeymoon?

I will be leaving on Sept. 14 or 15 from Louisville, KY. I want to take a two week, international vacation for less than $5,000 including air, accommodations and most of the rest. I don't want to go to the Caribbean or Mexico--spending 2 weeks on the beach sounds far too boring. Western Europe is out as well, I've traveled most of Western Europe before and my fiance wants to go somewhere that is new to both of us. I want adventure travel, not deluxe travel. Anything is an option--Peru, Thailand, Morocco, Croatia, etc. Where should I go? Any links to particular trip options or vacation packages will be greatly appreciated.
Repeat: Western Europe is not being considered.

South Africa is amazing!!!! Especially along the Cape (Western Cape/ Garden Route)! Not only is it gorgeous, but there is so much too do! Especially if you're into adventure! The highest bungy jump is there, cage diving with sharks, etc. Not sure of packages from the US, but it should be cheap, as the South African Rand is not very strong!!! Good luck!!!!! Enjoy!

Need to call the United States or any NANP Country? Did you know that the United States is one of 24 countries and is part of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP)? The North American Numbering Plan is made up of countries with "1" being the common country code. The very first phone call made with a North American area code was in 1951. Find out below from which state! It is easy to call the USA from any country if you know how. Here is a simple 2 step process of how to call any NANP country; step 1 is how to dial between NANP countries, and step 2 is how to dial any NANP country from any country.

First you need to know which countries are part of the North American Numbering Plan. The countries which are included are; Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada & Carriacou, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks and Caicos, United States and its five territories; Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa (self governing since 1967).

History of the NANP

The overall authority which assigns Country Codes to all Countries is the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The ITU lists all country codes including the NANP countries in a document entitled, "ITU-T Recommendation E.164 standardization by the ITU." In was in 1947, that NANP was created and adopted by AT&T to facilitate direct calling. Without a standardized dialing system in place, phone calls in the United States and around the globe would be misdirected. The very first NANP direct-dialed telephone call was made from Englewood, New Jersey to Alameda, California on November 10, 1951. This call marks the beginning of direct coast-to-coast telephone calling in the United States.

Common Traits of the North American Numbering Plan

  • "1" = This country-code is the same for all NANP-Countries
  • 3 digits = area code
  • 7 digits = local subscriber number
  • 10 digits = Total number of digits not including the "1"

Interesting additional facts:

  • Area-code: first digit can only be any number between 2 and 9.
  • Local subscriber number: first digit of the subscriber number can only be any number between 2 and 9.
  • First area code: to be introduced to the NANP was in New Jersey; "201". At the time, the middle digit of "0" and "1" was thought to be enough to cover all of the United States and Canada. This way of thinking turned out quickly to be re-thought and re-planned! California alone has 26 area-codes; 209, 213, 310, 323, 408, 415, 424, 510, 530, 559, 562, 619, 626, 650, 661, 707, 714, 760, 805, 818, 831, 858, 909, 916, 925, and 949. California is only one of many popular states with a growing population which translates into more area-codes to be introduced in the future.
  • The area code assignments for the Original Numbering Plan in 1947 included all states except Alaska, Hawaii, Northern Canada, and the Caribbean. States that had only one area-code had "0" as the middle digit. States and provinces which included multiple area codes all had "1" as the middle digit.

Step 1: How to call the USA or any of the 24 NANP Countries from a NANP Country To call between North American Numbering Plan countries Dial: 1 + (3 digit Area-Code) + 7 digits (local number).

American Samoa: 1(684); Anguilla: 1(264); Antigua and Barbuda: 1(268); Bahamas: 1(242); Barbados: 1(246); Bermuda: 1(441); British Virgin Islands: 1(284); Canada: 1(Area Code); Cayman Islands: 1(345); Dominica: 1(767); Dominican Republic: 1(809/829); Grenada and Carriacou: 1(473); Guam: 1(671); Jamaica: 1(876); Montserrat: 1(664); Northern Marianas: 1(670); Puerto Rico: 1(787/939); St Kitts and Nevis: 1(869); St Lucia: 1(758); St Vincent & the Grenadines: 1(784); Trinidad and Tobago: 1(868); Turks and Caicos: 1(649); US Virgin Islands: 1(340); USA: 1(US Area-Code);

All 50 States in the USA, all 13 Provinces/Territories of Canada, and the remaining 22 NANP-countries are part of the North America Numbering Plan (NANP). There is no need to dial the International Access Code prefix "011" when calling between NANP-countries. International Access Code, also known as "IAC", is a code which is needed to dial "out" from a country. Although, the 24 countries listed above are all included in the same numbering plan, long distance charges may apply when dialing between these countries.

Step 2: How to call the USA or any NANP-Country, from a different country outside of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP);To call any of the above countries from a different country outside of the the numbering plan;

Dial: IAC + 1 + 3 digit area code + 7 digits (local number).

IAC = International Access Code; IAC is needed to dial "out" from a country.

So there are only two things to remember when calling the USA. First step, are you calling from within the North American Numbering Plan? This method would indicate dialing a "1" before the remaining 10 digits. Second step, are you calling from outside the North American Numbering Plan? The second method would indicate dialing the international access code first to be able to dial out of the country. This would be followed by the "1" and the remaining 10 digits.

Get a complete list of USA Dialing Codes for calling USA from any country around the Globe!

Salmonsdam Nature Reserve, run by Cape Nature, is a small nature reserve not far from Stanford in the Western Cape in South Africa. There are three hiking trails available.

The longest is a Mountain Trail from the foot of the Perdeberg mountain and at the top they say that there's a view over Walker Bay (thats for sure, as you can see Walker Bay from virtually any point in the reserve), and the country towns of Caledon and Bredasdorp. The second trail is the 4km Ravine Trail through Keeromskloof and through small patches of indigenous forest. The final trail is the Waterfall Trail of about 3km through thick fynbos down to the falls and back. All three trails have short links so experienced and fit hikers could tackle all three in a day.

As a far too heavy 62 year old on a severe diet that includes at least an hours walking or biokinetics a day, the logical thing to do after 10 weeks of the regime was to do a bit of hiking, so we set off one beautiful Saturday morning to Salmonsdam.

We did part of the ravine trail but turned back where it joins the mountain trail. The piece we did do was fairly easy but the next stage seemed fairly difficult, although probably not difficult at all for experienced hikers. The fact that Salmonsdam hiking routes don't feature strongly on hiking and related sites confirms that assumption. I think if I'd had a walking stick I would have gone further. So we'll have to back at some stage.

There are very basic facilities at Salmonsdam Nature Reserve for overnight camping including a few small chalets. There is an ablution block and 10 camping sites.

Around the South east edge of the reserve is a "mountain drive": which leads far up into the Perdeberg and meets up with the Mountain trail. I was expecting to be able to drive to the top in an ordinary motor vehicle (a Mercedes C- class) but it seems that only 4X4 vehicles or perhaps even 4X2 LUV's will be able to reach the summit with any ease.

Flora and Fauna is varied and the reserve is a good example of a mountain catchment area. We spent an entire morning in the reserve and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's often used as a training site for school children because of the catchment area is so easily visible. Baboons and other small mammals are often seen in the reserve. We saw signs of the baboons feasting on freshly open Protea flowers and also flowers from a Protea that flowers just below the surface.

Salmonsdam was named after Captain Robert Salmond of HMS Birkenhead which sank just a few short miles from Salmonsdam on 26th February 1852 when around 450 sailors and soldiers lost their lives. from that tragic event came the now famous call of "Women and Children First' and the "Birkenhed Drill"

Getting There.

From Cape Town go to Hermanus on the N2 and R43 and then to Stanford on the R43. As you enter Stanford turn left onto the Caledon Road (R326). From the intersection go 4.4km until you reach the "Papiesvlei, Elim" turnoff to your right. From here on the roads are gravel. the road condition is not good and caution should be exercised.Travel approx 6km on this gravel road and then turn left at the Salmonsdam turnoff. Travel for approx 3.5 kms. You will pass the entrance to a property called Beloftebos and 1.5 km from there you will reach Salmonsdam Nature Reserve.

caribbean vacation club

caribbean vacation club

I for one, am one of those people that just loves to travel. If I could, I would be gone constantly and stop home in Las Vegas occasionally to swap out clothes and remember where I live.

As much as I love to travel, I have had the pleasure of owning a timeshare and also being a member of several Vacation Travel Clubs. Unfortunately, life circumstances changed for me, my elderly mother got sick, and I had to tame my wander lust and find other ways to enjoy travel with short weekend trips, etc.

In this article I am going to share with you just a few of the many benefits and ways you can enjoy, and benefit from, vacation club membership. When you know how to vacation and do it with the right company, you won't believe the amazing travel discounts you can enjoy. You may even make some money while you enjoy your travel if you so choose.

Travel Discounts One of the greatest benefits to having a vacation/travel club membership is the huge discounts you can get on Hotel, Airfare, Cruises, etc. Imagine being able to travel with your entire family a couple times of year all for the price of what one regular vacation would cost you. If you could take a week long cruise for $49 per person, would you be interested? What about a getaway to Disneyland for the whole family and you do not have to stay at Motel 6 to afford it?

Luxury Vacations and Luxury Resorts When most people think vacation club, they think empty rooms at budget hotels and motels that no one else wanted to book. This is probably the best kept secret about Vacation Club Membership, Luxury Vacations at Luxury Resorts in beautiful places all over the world that are actually affordable to the average, hardworking family. When most people hear, see or read the words "luxury vacation", they think way too expensive for the family. Right? You might think the "luxury vacation" is for the honeymooner, or retired person. I am here to tell you, that is so far from the truth - you won't believe it! When you finally join a vacation travel club that offers incredible luxury vacations that do not not cost you an arm or a leg, you are going to kick yourself and wonder what took you so long. Stop putting off the family vacation because you think you can't afford it. You don't have to wait until the kids are grown. You really can afford it and I'll show you how.

Your Membership Lasts a Lifetime Yes, you read that right! You can have travel discounts and luxury vacations at luxury resorts for the rest of your life once you join. Maybe you have small children right now and don't see yourself traveling more than 1 or 2 times a year. With a vacation travel club membership, you can enjoy the benefits for as long as you want to stay a member. Imagine having 75-100 or more trips to choose from every year. You decide when you want to travel, choose the trip you like most, and you book. Easy enough.

Don't think you have time to travel? Have you ever just taken a weekend trip somewhere? Maybe even a "staycation" in your own city. Why pay full price when you can get incredible discounts. Wouldn't you rather spend extra money enjoying the sites or a good meal instead of paying for the hotel and not being able to do anything fun? We offer all kinds of trips from weekend getaways, week longs stays, to two week cruises.

Book your own travel, or have someone do it for you If you have ever booked travel yourself, you know it can sometimes be a little overwhelming. What if you could book it yourself, or have someone else do it and it did not cost you anything extra? You Choose! I am one of those people that enjoys making my own travel plans online but when it comes to planning a complicated trip to Europe, I'd rather get some advice and assistance. With your membership, that is possible. You even get Concierge service (traveling or not).

Extra Income Stream Now this might blow your mind, but did you know you could actually make some money while your out and about traveling the world? Have you ever told your friends about a good book, movie, or dinner you ate? Imagine telling all your friends and family about the fabulous week long vacation you just took for $300 while you show them unbelievable pictures and they want to know where they can sign up. That is how easy it can be to make extra income while you are out enjoying your life. You do not need sales skills, you just need to have fun.

If any of this sounds good to you and you would like to know more, check out my Facebook Fan Page to learn more about the fabulous vacations and discount travel deals available for you today.

What are some fun party resorts in the caribbean for young adults?

Hello! Some college friends and I are planning a trip somewhere in the Caribbean. What are fun party resorts where they have beach parties, or fun and bumping night clubs in them? We wanna go somewhere beautiful, like the ideal desktop background vacation with the turquoise water and white sand, but something with nightlife as well. Also - prefer somewhere all-inclusive. It can be anywhere like Cancun, Dominican Republic, Curacao, or anywhere fun.

Compared to most Caribbean destinations, almost anytime is a good time for an Aruba vacation.

Many vacationers try to avoid the Caribbean's annual hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. The island of Aruba, located 15 miles off the coast of Venezuela, is located just south of the hurricane belt. That means the island escapes most -- but not all -- of the worst weather.

The average monthly high temperature is nearly 89 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the Meteorological Service of Netherland Antilles and Aruba. That makes Aruba one of the warmest destinations in the Caribbean. The average monthly low temperature is 78 degrees.

Rainfall is exceptionally low on Aruba -- only 16 inches in total for the year and less than 1.4 inches per month.

Caribbean weather is known for its warmth, but Aruba is warmer than most because of its closer location to the equator than most of the islands.

Aruba weather in August and September delivers average high monthly temperatures above 90 degrees. It drops only to 86 degrees in January and February.

Rain totals about 2.5 inches in October and December and exceeds three inches in November.

Anyone wanting to get ideal conditions will find that Aruba weather in January through July will provide the best odds for a comfortable visit. The higher temperatures in August and September will make shopping, hiking and other outdoor activities more uncomfortable.

Aruba weather in October, November and December is less than ideal because of higher rainfall and the rare possibility of a hurricane or tropical storm. But the risk of a hurricane is low enough and the rainfall is moderate enough compared to the rest of the Caribbean that vacationers will still face favorable odds with the weather.

caribbean cruise activities

caribbean cruise activities

There are so many activities to do on a cruise ship, the only problem you will have is deciding what to do. There are on board activities, port of call activities, age related activities, and special interest activities. Generally activities on board the cruise ship are free, but you have to pay for an on shore activity or excursion.

Most cruise lines have a children's program, divided by age group. Games and activities are age appropriate. Children can participate as much as their parents want them to. These generally include games, physical activity like using a playground or pool, and arts and crafts. Sometimes there are dances and social activities for the teen group.

Some activities involve more physical activity than others. There are ships that have pools, water parks, ice skating rinks, climbing walls and areas for golf (lessons or miniature golf). Skeet shooting off the deck is another option.

Arts and crafts are usually available for all ages. Some ships even have art fairs!

The on board theatre will run movies, both general and adult oriented. Board games, bingo and keno are examples of more sedentary activities to engage in.

Some cruise lines feature lessons, all sorts. You can learn a foreign language, how to cook foreign fare or gourmet meals, how to play golf, poker or dance.

Spas provide massages, hair care, manicures and pedicures and other special types of treatments for the body. Think how good that would feel after dancing in the disco all night!

If you have a special interest or avocation there may be a cruise with it in mind. The sounds of the blues, or a family oriented cruise, or special cruises for singles.

Of course there are shows with all sorts of entertainment, comedians, dancers, magicians, or singers for example. Often there is a casino 24 hours a day. And then night clubs for dancing and merriment. If you consider eating a cruise activity, there is someplace to go almost 24 hours a day.

Should i cruise with Royal Caribbean or Carnival?

i've been asking a lot of these so i just want a flat answer:
which one?
why?
food good?
amenities good?
activities good?
overall atmosphere is:
1-10:

if you have been on both please give me your experiences with both and which one you liked better

Carnival is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to cruising.Carnival serves lobsters They are the least expensive and it shows. Food is mediocre at best. They tend to cater to families with children and to young adults under 25. Had a more rowdy, younger crowd and food was just ok. Pretty good onboard activities and the kid's program was the best feature!! Kids were unsupervised late at night (1:00 pm!!) in pool, jacuzzi.

Royal Caribbean is one of my favorites and have some great ports of call.Lounges: with the Viking Crown Lounge, those that sailed on RCCL knows what that is all about. Good Service, Good Drinks, and great Views

The Bahamas cruise packages differ in the amenities and accommodations provided. Most of the packages include shipboard accommodations, ocean transportation, fabulous entertainment and daily activities, on-board meals and some beverages, port charges and more. These do not include shore excursions, personal expenses, gratuities, or alcoholic beverages. Taxes are not included, and can vary from $5 to $110 per person.

The various Bahamas cruise packages are different for all of the different cruise liners. The packages start at a 3-night stay, all the way up to 7-night stays, and sometimes even beyond. The most affordable 3-night stay starts from $229 for the interior stateroom on the Carnival cruise, while the 7-night Bahamas and Florida cruises are more expensive, at $579 in the interior stateroom on the Norwegian cruise line. The Disney cruise line is also available for $499 in the interior if you plan a family vacation.

There are many packages from which to choose. These include value added packages, adventure packages, all inclusive packages, honeymoon packages, luxury packages, theme park packages, and travel packages. Bargain for the best discount package and save yourself a few dollars. The Bahamas is an all-year-round cruise destination. But the school holiday periods form the busiest times of the year for family cruise vacations. This can also be an ideal time for the entire family, because everybody will be free from tensions. Those looking for the best packages in a cruise to the Caribbean and the Bahamas should check sailing dates in January, late spring or September through early December.

map of caribbean islands haiti

map of caribbean islands haiti

This being my first visit to this part of the world, I didn't really know what to expect. Like everyone else, for a long time I thought Dominica and the Dominican Republic were the same. However, I soon learned that The Dominican Republic shares an island with Haiti and is near Puerto Rico and Dominica is in the southern Caribbean near Grenada.

A land of many wonders, but one of the most enjoyable would have to be Screw's Sulphur Springs. Nestled in the rain forest near Trafalgar Falls, a visit will bring relaxation, refreshment and take away five years of stress.

Traversing the hilly, steep winding roads can be quite a feat, I can't imagine there would be more treacherous roads anywhere, fortunately high speeds are entirely out of the question, therefore the  the risk of an accident is minimal.

Having spent the morning driving through the rain forest and hiking the long trail to Ti Tu Gorge, it was now time to relax and enjoy a nice sulphur swim.

Not only is the water refreshing(quite different from the chilly waters of Ti Tu Gorge) we found five pools of warm and cool water.

The staff is very efficient and Mr. Screw, the owner is very  hospitable. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome and part of the family.

The place looks magnificent, with greenery everywhere, it's like having your own private rain forest. As one relaxes in the five pools, all your tensions and worries melt away. One can only handle this luxury for maybe an hour, then it's time to get back to the real world.

Climbing back up to the road we were greeted in the bar/sitting area with fresh fruit and  a cup of Coco-Tea. All the fruits and the Coco it self is grown on site, nothing like fresh fruit right off the vine.

The people living on the island are very laid back and happy, the island has one of the lowest crime rates in the Western Hemisphere, and they also enjoy one of the longest lifespans, living off fruits and nuts found on the island, many live to be centurions. (I assume the low crime rate could also lead to a longer life.)

Much too soon our journey was complete, and after the mandatory shopping stop,  it was time to make our way back to our floating hotel just in time to catch a glimpse of the island as we left port.

After enjoying a fine dinner in the dining room, it was time to retire for the evening and prepare for our next port of call where more adventures awaited us.
