help with "formal" dresses for cruise! bf in military uniform?

anyone have dress ideas for formal night on a royal caribbean cruise ship? we'll be going to mexico in late august.

i dont want to look "too" fancy. my boyfriend is active duty military and will be wearing his dress uniform most likely. i just need styles ideas. im overall very small and about 5'3" if that helps. and im 21 if that also helps, so something mature but still fun.

links would be awesome. im so lost.

as for the other nights (casual and smart causal) i can just wear cute cocktail dresses right?
coast guard ;) and thanks for the links!!!

Well, you are the same age as I am and just an inch shorter so I'm going to put some thing I would wear. Personally I do not like the Forever 21 dresses, the look tacky and cheaply made, I personally would never wear any of them. I'm not trying to be rude, they're just not my style and not something I thing should be worn to a formal dinner.

You didn't give a price point for you dresses so I tried to stay under $100.

These could be used for either

Guidelines for safe travel during pregnancy?

My sister is expecting her first child later this year. Last night, she told me that her best friend is getting married a few weeks before my sister's due date, and that she will likely have to miss the wedding because of the travel involved.

What are some general tips and guidelines for traveling during pregnancy? Let's assume that it is a normal, healthy pregnancy without any complications.

At what point in the pregnancy is it safest to travel?

When should travel be avoided (besides the last few weeks)?

Is there a point when longer car trips (more than 2 hours, let's say) should be avoided?

Is travel to resort areas in places like Mexico and the Caribbean safe at any point during the pregnancy, or is it best to avoid travel to those areas?

Most airlines won't carry women late on in pregnancy.

Apart from that, what's the problem? Car trips longer than two hours? Many women are commuting that far to work every day up until a couple of weeks before they give birth.

There is no "safest point in the pregnancy" to travel because travel during pregnancy isn't dangerous.

best caribbean island to visit in july

best caribbean island to visit in july

Sanibel and Captiva, Florida are famous for their seashells; there are around 200 species on their beaches! The islands are so fantastic for shelling because of geography. Sanibel Island twists among other islands, and Sanibel's south end becomes a sort of bucket for all the seashells that the Gulf brings from The Caribbean and other southern seas.

Sanibel Island and Captiva Island are actually made out of shells. When islanders dig gardens in their backyards, they find whole conchs, whelks, scallops and clam shells, as well as pieces of them. Because there are so many, and so many types of, shells on the islands, Sanibel and Captiva Islands attract the shell-obsessed. People come from all over the world to look for seashells on the island beaches. If you would enjoy creating your own collection of seashells, then your next vacation should take you to the islands. Every March, seashell fans gather at the annual Sanibel Shell Fair & Show to share and compare shell collections and shell art. All year long, shell shops sell seashells. Shells are the dominant motif in island decor, and you'll find everything that could possible be made from shells for sale in the boutiques

When to Find Seashells. The best months for seashell finding are between February and April, but you can find them any time of year; at low tide, shells will be there for the picking. After a storm you will have good hunting, too.

Because shelling is a major draw to Sanibel and Captiva, the rates for hotel and vacation condominiums are highest during the shelling season. January is usually somewhat less expensive. Most rates fall drastically between May and December.

How and Where to Find Seashells. When you vacation there you can search for, and collect, whelk, conch, olives, scallops, sand dollars and many more shells. As a general rule you will find smaller seashells on the Lighthouse end of the island chain, and larger ones nearer Captiva and North Captiva.

All you need for equipment is a bucket or net bag and scoop. Wear shoes and shuffle to expose partially hidden mollusks and to scare away fish. You will be doing the Sanibel Stoop! Islanders call the posture of seashell searches, doubled over to spot shells, the Sanibel Stoop.

Just make sure that the shells you pick up have nothing living in them, before you put them in your bucket! Florida law forbids taking living shells off the beach, and you do not want a little creature anyway.

Where is the best place to go in the Caribbean with your grilfriend?

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to the Caribbean at the end of November. We are going to get a cheap deal off selloffvacations.com at the last minute. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations or things to look out for when planning this trip? I don't want to get there and have nothing for us to do, and we do not want to end up in a dump.

The only thing I know so far is we need to get at least a 4 star resort, and were going for all inclusive.

Without knowing what you like to do, it is hard to recommend specific locations, but at any rate I suggest you talk to a Travel agent that specializes in the Caribbean. I good agent will ask you a lot of questions and get to know you and then recommend several options for you. As far as resorts go, 4 star means some different to each person, for example does that mean butler service and lots of marble, or does it mean big rooms, fancy meals, great alcohol selections, lots of in resort activities. Maybe that means you really just want an ocean FRONT room right over the beach. Even for us professionals who have been to a lot of places it still takes us a lot of time to find the right place for clients, so try a travel agent, if you don't like the answer you can still use a click agency and take your chances.
have fun,

Destination Wedding in Anguilla?

My fiance and I just got engaged and we are looking to plan a destination wedding. We would like to get married in a "not-so-typical" Caribbean destination and we came across Anguilla. Neither one of us has ever heard of it before and it looks interesting from the pictures, yet we can't really find any reviews from people who have gotten married there. I was wondering if anyone has ever been to a wedding there or gotten married there and if so, where and how did you like it? Also, when would you say is the best time of the year to go? Is it a cheaper all-inclusive island or is it on the more expensive side than other Caribbean islands?

I found Anguilla to be a romantic honeymoon spot - it's off the beaten tourist path, so you can enjoy walking the beautiful beaches without hoards of other people around and you can always pop over to St. Martin via a short ferry ride if you want more action. It's not the cheapest place to be, but there are some affordable places (no all-inclusive) - I've provided a link to my favorite below. Best time of year is November (end of hurricane season, and just before rates go up for winter). Be SURE to go to Scilly Cay for fresh caught/grilled lobster!

cheap caribbean vacation packages all inclusive

The Caribbean is one of the world's favorite cruise destinations and there is always a rush to book suitable vacation packages. The most popular cruise times are Christmas, just after Easter, and the summertime. Planning a vacation several months ahead and getting suitable bookings done early enough would be a wise move. Early bookings often get competitive rates.

It is always good to gather some general information about a proposed vacation destination. Cruise liners offer their best rates during the months of January, May, September, October, November and first two weeks of December. If you want a smooth sailing experience, then June is the month to plan your vacation in as the Caribbean sees the smoothest seas in June. February is the month for the roughest seas and is best avoided. The general forecast for the Caribbean is that the most likely time for hurricanes is in the month of September.

All inclusive Caribbean cruises are a wonderful way to unwind and relax. All inclusive is a concept that refers to all the expenses of the vacation paid in a lump sum usually upfront. Once this is done one can just sit back and relax, without having to worry about paying for each and every thing.

Your all inclusive Caribbean cruises could be a Western Caribbean cruise starting from Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, or Port Canaveral and going on to New Orleans or Galveston, and sometimes Baltimore and Charleston. Typical ports of call on this route are Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Cancun (Calica), Belize, and Key West.

The other route is an Eastern Caribbean route where the ports of call would include San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maartin, Nassau, or Labadee. Many cruise lines have access to private islands. These islands are used for barbecues and water activities. An all inclusive cruise would entitle you to the use of all on-board amenities.

If the cruise is along a Southern Caribbean route then the ports of call would include Aruba, Curacao, Barbados, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Johns (Antigua), St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Martinique, Caracas (Venezuela), Dominica, Guadeloupe, Catalina Island (Dominican Republic), Grenada, St. Croix, St. Barts, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda.

Christmas in the Caribbean

What did you do for Christmas last year? Did you wade through seas of people and endure rude sales clerks in a mad dash to get your last minute shopping done? Maybe you loaded up the minivan and hauled your family across three states to a relatives house for three straight days of mass organized chaos. No matter what you did, it's a safe bet that there a lot stress involved. Are you looking forward to doing the same thing this year, or do you think maybe it's time for a change? Instead of saving up your pennies for a summer trip, maybe you should consider a holiday in the Caribbean instead.

Sunny Caribbean Vacation in December or January

In the Caribbean, the sun shines year round so there is no reason you shouldn't enjoy it in December or January. Aruba, Barbados, the Cayman Islands or any one of the destinations in the Caribbean will act as a welcome replacement to the stressful winter your friends are facing back home. It may not be the holiday season you are used to, but in the Caribbean you can make your own new traditions. While your friends are scraping the ice off of their windshields, you will be listening to the waves crash on the shore from your beach chair. As everyone back at home is fighting over the last parking spot at the mall, you'll be watching the sunset over the ocean horizon.

Worry-Free Way to Travel to the Caribbean

One of the most worry-free ways to travel to the Caribbean during the holidays or any other time is to find an all-inclusive resort or travel package. Make sure it is reputable so you don't end up in a no-name hotel downtown somewhere with questionable food and watered-down drinks. If you have the means, try going through a travel agent to book all of the details. For a less expensive method, there are countless internet travel sites that offer special rates when you book vacations as a package. The most important part--as with any vacation planning--is that you trust the source you decide to use after doing plenty of research.

There are several places to choose from when trying to decide where to spend your Caribbean holiday. Finding the right one for you requires knowing your budget, what you want to do as far as activities, and what is going to have the best availabilities. The Bahamas are very popular and among the most common vacation spots in the Caribbean. Visit the Changing of the Guards Ceremony or attend a Friday night Fish Fry in Grand Bahama Island. There is no shortage of events to attend or activities year round in this tropical paradise.

Checking Out How the "Other Half" Lives at St. Bart's

If you are interested in seeing how the "other half" lives, you might want to check out St. Barthelemy, affectionately dubbed St. Bart's by its loyal--and wealthy--visitors. Known for its pristine beaches and gourmet restaurants, St. Bart's is a Mecca for the rich and famous. If you can afford it, you'll have no trouble finding pampering on this island. Though there are several hotels to choose from, the most popular accommodations are villas and bungalows. You may end up spending more than you planned if you hit up St. Bart's, so if you are on a tight budget you might want to stick to one of the other many options.

Christmas Caribbean vacations are not exactly a new idea. As long as there have been shopping malls and insane relatives, there have been people desperately trying to escape them. While there is definitely a busy season in the Caribbean, it's difficult to find a season that does not attract a loyal following of tourists. Whether it's Curacao, Barbados, Grand Cayman, St. Lucia, St. Maarten or anywhere else in the Caribbean, you probably won't find yourself feeling homesick anytime soon. If you do pine for a traditional Christmas custom, find yourself a palm tree to decorate and remember that a week from now you will be back at home wishing you were here. Happy Holidays!

Are there any cruises from the US that stay at/travel around Puerto Rico only?

My boyfriend and I would like to spend a week during our college winter break this year to travel to Puerto Rico. He has Puerto Rican heritage but was born and raised in the US so he's never gotten to see his native land, which I am very eager for us to do.

Most of the cruises we've researched do a Caribbean routing--that is, some of them include Puerto Rico for 12 hours up to a day of the ship docking at the port before they move on to other Carribbean islands like the Bahamas and St. Maarten's.

My question is, are there any cruises that only do Puerto Rico? Maybe with the exception of one other island? We want as much time as we can in Puerto Rico. We're choosing a cruise because none of us know anybody in the island who we can stay with, and we also don't want to be spending on additional hotel stays and food.

Thanks a lot!

I'd have to agree with the other responders. Fly and enjoy what Puerto Rico has to offer. Last year, we spent two nights at the Sheraton Old San Juan. Not the best hotel in the world but certainly not the worse either. Be sure to join the frequent travler club at SPG.com if you choose to do this. They often offer specials that can help cut your costs.

To "see" his native land, you really need to spend more time on the ground than on the ship. If you're off the ship exploring, you're going to have to buy your own lunches anyway. Addtionally, on the ship, you'd most likely be eating standard cruise fare while staying on the island, you'll be eating what the natives eat (unless you spend all your time at fast food).

Hit the library or a bookstore and do your research. Also look online for vacation packages. If you belong to your alumni or an auto club, check to see if they offer any discounts. Another thing you can do is check to see if your college might have a Puerto Rican club. Your best answers could be on campus!

Good luck and have fun!

As more and more of us are leading busy lives, and the pressures of work constantly on the rise, going away on that cruising holiday may not be as relaxing as it sounds. Cruising is all about getting away from it all, relaxing in the sun, finding cheap places to eat on excursions. However, more and more people are using this free, relaxation time to use the ships internet café or wi-fi to check work emails.

This "work addiction" was seen years ago, when mobile phones were all the rage, but now it appears to have switched to emails. Cruise holiday agencies are responding to this demand, by increasing the use of Wi-Fi on board ships. So not only are people moving from mobiles to email for work communication, they are also going as far as taking their works laptop on board and emailing from the top deck by the pool. I saw this on numerous occasions during the last cheap cruise I was on.

Are the days of people reading by the top deck pool numbered? (not for the Cheap Cruises I go on). Research from a leading UK newspaper suggests that one in five couples argue on holiday, due to their partner accessing work online. The terrible truth behind this, is that maybe people are so used to the hustle and bustle of everyday life, they are unable to completely relax, even when on holiday, floating in the sun.

In twenty years time, will most people be lying by the pool chatting to colleagues on MSN instead, or finishing off that report due in on the first day back? Only time will tell.

Should we show any sympathy for this man ..?

Wayne Rooney booked 5 first class tickets at a cost of £30,000 to fly to Barbados to view his new mansion then a Caribbean cruise before jetting off to Las Vagas for the last leg of his holiday .... all this TWO DAYS BEFORE playing Germany in the knockout stage of the World Cup.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1290766/Wayne-Rooney-goes-holiday-booked-TWO-days-World-Cup-exit.html

Surely this action proves that there was no real commitment towards the England squad?
How many of the others did the same?

Your views please.

No. I bet he has no sympathy for people who worked hard to save money to go and support England at the world cup. They should sack the bloody lot of them and rebuild the team from scratch using players who would be proud to wear the England shirt and, in doing so play their hearts out for their country.

caribbean vacation packages all inclusive

caribbean vacation packages all inclusive

If you are planning your vacation, there are a lot of options now when it comes to packages. Some resorts offer you free activities and tours and some give you complimentary meals, usually breakfast. However, there is a new package that most luxury and remote resorts offer - all-inclusive packages.

What are all-inclusive packages and how much do they normally cost? What are the advantages of going all-inclusive as compared to traditional packages?

An all-inclusive package is pretty much self-explanatory. It means that most of the things that you need to pay for while you are in the resort are already included in your package. This ranges from meals and beverages to activities and tours.

In all-inclusive packages, all your meals are already paid for and you can contact room service anytime to request for food. Some resorts also include alcoholic beverages and some do not, offering only non-alcoholic beverages in their menu.

Usually, prices for all-inclusive packages range from around $400 to $1000 per day, depending on the resort and the amenities included. Children are normally charged half of the adult rate but we think this is still quite steep since kinds 0 to 12 are the only ones considered children.

So, is all-inclusive worth the price tag? If you are dying to go to a remote island in the Caribbean with a mandatory all-inclusive package, then it may be worth it. But if you are going to Mexico, where there are a lot of establishments and restaurants that would cost half of what you would be paying at the resort, we say skip the all-inclusive at all costs.

Where to go on vacation?

I want to take a trip to The Caribbean with my husband. Which island should we go to? I don't want to go anywhere that is too poor. Our budget is $2000. All inclusive packages would be a must!

WTF is with the demand for "all-inclusive" packages?
The best bars & restaurants are NOT on "resort-hotel" properties.

And... $2000 might get you a 3--4 day weekend,
certainly not a whole week.

If that's your budget,
take a 3- or 4-day Carnival cruise.

FWIW: My wife & I did a 1-week "honeymoon" vacation on St Martin;
Total Budget: $5000.
$1200 for 2 round-trip plane tickets
$1400 lodging (that's $200 / night)
$1000 food & liquor
$1400 shopping (jewelry, gifts, & souvenirs, car rental, snorkeling trip, etc.)

the caribbean islands facts

the caribbean islands facts

Whether you call it "paradise" or "heaven on earth," one thing is for sure, a Caribbean island vacation will meet your needs if you're looking for fun things to do, like sun-bathing, swimming, boating, scuba diving, snorkeling, and dancing.

For the best vacation in the sun, nothing beats the Caribbean. Located south of Florida and north of South America, with Central America on its west and the Atlantic Ocean on its east, the Caribbean  boasts the best balmy weather that is the closest to the continental United States.

Even the cities contain glorious architecture and the towns in the region have been established long ago. The Caribbean waters are clear and the sun is hot; a Caribbean island vacation has something for everyone - whether you want to hike, swim, dive, snorkel or just play on its white sand beaches.

The islands are aglow with unique cultures that have a European flavor. They boast top-rated hotels, resorts, restaurants, activities, attractions, and shopping. With over fifty island destinations to choose from, each has its own extensive list of accommodations and activities that fit the Caribbean's famous warm weather.

Some of the famous island destinations include:

  • Aruba
  • the Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • the British Virgin Islands
  • Dominica
  • Grenada
  • Jamaica
  • Puerto Rico and
  • the US Virgin Islands

Aruba has its night life, the British Virgin Islands its sailing; Jamaica has its reggae music, and Puerto Rico its rum; the Bahamas has its banks, and the US Virgin Islands its beautiful snorkeling spots. Grenada has a chocolate plantation that makes its own delicious chocolates.

Take a tour of the rain forest in Puerto Rico or a tour the Arecibo Observatory, which is the world's largest radar/radio telescope. A 20-acre radar dish sits in a large 565-foot deep sinkhole. The telescope can probe the ionosphere, examine planets and monitor natural radio emissions from distant galaxies, pulsars and quasars. Or learn how Bacardi Rum is distilled and bottled as you visit their building.

Or to save big bucks and get back to nature, go camping on St. John, in the US Virgin Islands. The National Park has places to set up tents or if you don't want to "rough it," they have shelters with two opposite ends screened in to allow the trade winds to keep you cool. The shelters also have platforms that keep you off the ground.

With so many places to go and so many activities to do, picking the right place and things to do may seem overwhelming. That's why it's good to look before you leap.

Okay, here's whats bugging me.Every time a white tourist sees me with my friends, they always make comments, like: "Why is that white kid acting white" or "Why is that white kid hanging around black folks".WTF!? I don't get it.Not being rude or anything, but why is that sos.A lot of those tourists who say those things tend to be American or French. Not generalising - just saying the truth.
@ Skitty, you're disgusting! People like you need to be run over by trucks!
@ commie blaster, you're an idiot! Retard!

They should respect that they are in your home. I, too, live in a tourist town and some of them can be real idiots with entitlement issues. I hope at least their vacation will open their eyes outside of their own small bubble.
