Where's THE place to go for land travel?

I've been on cruises for the my vacations for the last three years. Cruise Critic.com was the place to research your questions and all of the information you could ever need. Now we want to go to some all-inclusuve resorts in the caribbean and wherever else we think might be interesting. What are some of the websites for gathering info for this type of land vacations?

Caribbean would be nice. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/

Caribbean islands in the last week of December - good weather?

Me and my wife are planning to go to Caribbean islands for 5 days(absolutely no idea which ones are the best) . Our activities of interest are snorkeling, get wet in the beach, romantic dinners and the place has to be decent with god guest house or hotels.

Our option right now is Barbados and Bahamas. Do you think 5 days in Barbados is too less or more? and where all can we drive from Barbados to the other islands with great views and awesome weather

Barbados is my first choice. The weather is great around that time of the year with lots of sunshine wit lovely beaches in a safe environment. Five days is good but next time you should consider extending the time. The island is great for snorkeling and we have a variety of accommodation. However, you will not be able to drive to other islands.
Check here for accommodation.

As the other person suggested ...Little Arches is a nice hotel to stay at.

I've booked a Caribbean cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line on Norwegian Spirit. How does it rate vs others?

We cruised on the Norwegian Spirit last spring to the southern Caribbean. The ship was nice, but not the nicest we have been on. We liked the cruise itinerary to islands in the lower Caribbean. At one time I had NCL as my favorite cruise line but after my last two cruises on NCL I have changed my opinion.

After NCL was bought by Star Cruises and they instituted the "Freestyle Cruising", I do not recommend NCL, especially for people who have been on a number of cruises before because of the "freestyle" cruising. Ever since Star Cruises took over NCL the line it has an Asian flavor; Star is an Oriental company. Some of the performers and musicians were Asian and they had Karioke every evening. Not my cup of tea. Freestyle means that you do not have to specify a dining option; don't have a table and waiter assigned to you.

"FREESTYLE" means you can go to dinner in the main dining room any time of the evening. It means you don't have to "dress up" for dinner ,but just go "sports casual". But it also means that you may be standing in line awaiting a table on some days (like we had to a couple times); not what you want on a cruise. Since you go when you want, you rarely get the same waiter and so never really get to know your waiter and he/she never learns what you prefer. The option to this being pushed on NCL is their optional dining restaurants. However, these dining options can cost $10 to $20 a person for dinner each night. This is not what you want after paying for a cruise which is supposed to be all inclusive.

The optional restaurants are nice, including French, Chinese/Sushi, Tex-Mex, Italian, and steak house restaurants. But who wants to go pay to eat on a cruise ship where all the meals are supposed to be included. We always skipped the optional restaurants and just got to the main dining early. That worked fine, except on "at sea" days when everyone wanted to go eat early. WE finally found that we could reserve a table in the main dining room, BUT we still didn't get the same waiter and table.

You will enjoy the ship, but its nothing special though. I now perfer Royal Caribbean to NCL. My second choice now is Princess which in my book has some of the best ships and food.

Honeymoon spots in the Caribbean?

Which are the best honeymoon spots in the Caribbean? All inclusive resorts are more than welcome. As always money is a concern, but don't let that keep you from making suggestions if you really feel they're worthwhile.

Thanks to all in advance.

There are several Caribbean Islands that make wonderful Honeymoon destinations. They are all very similar, however different in some ways.

Depending on your departure city would determine which would have the best prices/directness of a flight.

Jamaica is the 2nd top Honeymoon destination so they must be doing something right. The thing about Jamaica is you don't need to stay in the most expensive resort, but it is important to choose wisely because this will make or break your Honeymoon. Jamaica is popular because of there All Inclusive properties and because from the US it's one of the closer islands, more flights, etc. The cost tends to be a bit friendlier.

Cayman is better for a family vacation in my opinion, lovely of course, but quite expensive and more of a condo type place, than resort.

I'm not a huge fan of the Bahamas, considering depending on your beach you can find yourself on a rockier one.

St. Lucia is the Hawaii of the Caribbean with waterfall, rain forest, volcano, lush, tropical and hilly island it truly is a gem! This one always tends to price more than say Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bahamas, etc.

I sell a lot of the Mayan Riviera area, which is South of Cancun. It is a complete opposite of Cancun and with it being on the Caribbean side, but yet Mexico it is quite a popular choice.

I would strongly suggest working with a very seasoned agent, or a Honeymoon specialist. We ask various questions to help us determine where we feel is best for you with first what you want out of your Honeymoon, while trying to stay within your budget.

Remember to start planning in advance. Prices are based off availability and depending there might be a promo code that could save you some money.

Congrats on your Engagement!

The best way to save $ on hotels and airfare for a Caribbean family vacation?

I want to travel to the Turks n Cac.. with my family for the summer. I know exactly which hotel I'd like to stay at bu currently the price for the entire trip is going to run us upwards of $6,000 (eeeek!)

Do you have any tips/tricks that will help me to save $ on hotel and flight costs 2 adults + 2 babies (ages 2 & under)? Help me figure out the best time of year to book, where to look for deals, etc. I'd like to chop this price in half. I'm going in early/mid July.

Early/mid July is actually a higher season than most of the rest of the Caribbean. The best time to go to Turks and Caicos is Sep thru Nov. For lodging, when ever I go I rent a villa or condo and negotiate last minute rates, many times I've gotten really nice places for 1/2 off. There's always tons of places available in the off season, so no worries waiting until 2 or 3 weeks before you go to book something. For airfare, its best to keep checking fares and when there's a sale book then. Good luck with it.

Do the pre-loaded Garmin GPS street maps include the Caribbean?

I have a standard nuvi Garmin GPS, bought in the US. I'm planning a trip to St. Maarten, and hope to use it there. Looking at the Garmin map list on the website, I don't see a separate product for the Caribbean.

Are street maps for Caribbean islands already included in the standard map set pre-loaded into the units sold in the US? If not, do they sell them and where can I get one?

I have a basic Garmin GPS, and could not find info whether it had Caribbean maps or not but I decided to take it anyway on vacation..........It worked great in all the VIrgin Islands....Most people will say you dont really need a GPS on a small island, but it is really nice to find different restaurants that are preloaded, as well as attractions....If you can not figure out if it works for St. Maarten, take it anyhow and try it......I remember it took maybe 5 minutes to lock when we got there, so be patient.....
