It is undeniable that Mauritius holidays are popular and enjoyable for most people. Situated in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, this island is surrounded by bright coral, pearly white beaches and the clear warm waters of the Indian Ocean. But family holidays to any destination can be tricky, as many hotels don't welcome or allow children and, if they do, they rarely cater to children's needs. Here are two of the best child friendly hotels to consider for your family holiday in Mauritius.

Anahita the Resort

One of this hotel's biggest selling points for families is that it has a distinctly home-away-from-home feel. The hotel is structured into luxury residences, which you can turn into your family home for a few days during your Mauritius holiday. The residences even have their own private plunge pools, which your children can enjoy while you are close at hand.

Anahita is situated on the east coast of the island, and with a beautiful stretch of white beach beside it, beachside family entertainment is on your doorstep. The resort has all the facilities necessary to entertain a whole family too, with tennis courts, wellness and fitness centres, restaurants, and even a golf course to keep people of all ages entertained on a family holiday in Mauritius.

If you crave a bit of peace and quiet, but have younger children who need to be kept constantly stimulated, there is a kids club available too. The club is called 'Our Space' and it is open to children of all ages (starting at 8 months). Your children can make friends and play safely here, while you get some time off, on your Mauritius holiday.

The Hilton Mauritius

Situated on the west coast, bordering one of the island's most beautiful beaches, lies the Hilton. Its prime location serves to enhance the comfortable and luxurious accommodation this Mauritius hotel provides, and you can enjoy spending fun-filled Mauritius holidays at this resort. Parents on family holidays need not fret at the thought of not getting any time to themselves, as the resort has its own kids club for children aged 4 - 12 years. For the evenings, if parents want to make use of the delicious seafood restaurants and have a dinner for two, a babysitting service is also available from the resort, giving you all the freedom you need on a family holiday in Mauritius.

A great activity for the whole family is to hire bikes from the resort and explore the area. Lush green tropical plants surround you, as does a pretty coastline and the village of Flic en Flac - all simply waiting to be explored. The mini putting green makes for hours of family fun, and the resort pool is also a source of family entertainment. All the other activities typical of Mauritius holidays are available too, such as tennis, scuba diving and snorkelling. The Hilton is an ideal family hotel as it is in a prime location, has excellent facilities, and strives to accommodate its guests, of all ages.

Borra Borra or the Caribbean?

I have decided to elope either to Hawaii and off to the Polynesian Islands for a Honeymoon or fly to the Caribbean to elope and stay around there for honeymoon. I need help on which is best for privacy, private plunge pools, white beaches and tons of palm trees? Prices are not an issue. I've heard about Jade Mountain in St Lucia, but it seems a little inconvenient...Any suggestions? Thanks!!:) PS I am not worried about Hawaii because I've stayed at at private resort there and lived there for a while. Our main concern would be the Honeymoon...

Head to Polynesia! You can rent entire islands there, if it is privacy you sesire.

If any where in the world there is a perfect climate, it is in Aruba. Warm and sunny climate throughout the year with a constant and reliable breeze, moderate rainfall and a total absence of hurricanes make Aruba a heaven for the tourists.

In Aruba there is no winter or summer, fall or spring for January is as warm as July and April as warm as October. The difference between the hottest and coolest month is very small. The average temperature throughout the year remains about 82 F (27 C). The average high never goes beyond 90 F and the average low never falls below 70 F (21 C) and the total annual rainfall is just 20 inches.

The best season to visit Aruba is from November to February when, the high temperature, as a rule does not exceed 86 f ( 30 C ) and the average low hovers around 77 F ( 25 C ) and average wet days are only ten per month ( compare them with other Caribbean islands which have more than 20 wet days during this time of the year). The days as well as nights are therefore moderate in this season with rainfall falling in short showers and not lasting for more than a hour in general and the weather becomes even more clearer and brighter afterwards.

The general dryness of climate and a total absence of hurricanes are the two best known distinguishing feathers of Aruba. All the other Caribbean Islands are not only very wet throughout the year, but are affected by the hurricanes of the Atlantic to a lesser or greater degree.

In short, the climate of Aruba has no extremes of temperatures, no heavy rainfall and no hurricane threat and these features make it an ideal resort for the holiday makers.

Which are the best months to have vacations at Caribbean Islands?

Taking into account weather (hurricanes, rain, heat) mainly.

I have found March, April, May and June the best months to travel in the Caribbean. October and November are also good months. We have traveled all over the Caribbean during these months many many times. The only time we got caught with a hurricane was once in October. We just changed our destination and were able to travel.

We always purchase travel insurance no matter when we travel in the Caribbean.

After April 15th -June 15 th is considered shoulder season, the prices drop. (my favorite time to travel) June 15th-Dec 15th is low season and you can find bargains. Like right now.

Enjoy and happy travels)

The Caribbean is one of the world's favorite cruise destinations and there is always a rush to book suitable vacation packages. The most popular cruise times are Christmas, just after Easter, and the summertime. Planning a vacation several months ahead and getting suitable bookings done early enough would be a wise move. Early bookings often get competitive rates.

It is always good to gather some general information about a proposed vacation destination. Cruise liners offer their best rates during the months of January, May, September, October, November and first two weeks of December. If you want a smooth sailing experience, then June is the month to plan your vacation in as the Caribbean sees the smoothest seas in June. February is the month for the roughest seas and is best avoided. The general forecast for the Caribbean is that the most likely time for hurricanes is in the month of September.

All inclusive Caribbean cruises are a wonderful way to unwind and relax. All inclusive is a concept that refers to all the expenses of the vacation paid in a lump sum usually upfront. Once this is done one can just sit back and relax, without having to worry about paying for each and every thing.

Your all inclusive Caribbean cruises could be a Western Caribbean cruise starting from Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, or Port Canaveral and going on to New Orleans or Galveston, and sometimes Baltimore and Charleston. Typical ports of call on this route are Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Cancun (Calica), Belize, and Key West.

The other route is an Eastern Caribbean route where the ports of call would include San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maartin, Nassau, or Labadee. Many cruise lines have access to private islands. These islands are used for barbecues and water activities. An all inclusive cruise would entitle you to the use of all on-board amenities.

If the cruise is along a Southern Caribbean route then the ports of call would include Aruba, Curacao, Barbados, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Johns (Antigua), St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Martinique, Caracas (Venezuela), Dominica, Guadeloupe, Catalina Island (Dominican Republic), Grenada, St. Croix, St. Barts, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda.

Anything I may have forgotten to pack for my cruise?

I'm going on a 7 day cruise to the Caribbean on the Crown Princess! Flying to San Juan tomorrow and cruise leaves on Saturday.

Can you think of anything I should pack that I might have not thought of?
Thanks!

I have been on many cruises all over the Caribbean and here's what I suggest, some you may have already thought of, but some not.

Always pack your passport and cruise documents in your carry on bag ONLY.

The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM, so take:
-swim wear (at least 2),
-shorts, tank tops and "T's"
-sandals,
-beach shoes,
-your snorkel equipment if you have it,
-sun glasses and sun screen,
-lotions,
-a cap or big hat for the sun,
-a book if you are a reader, -
-your music player,
-sneakers and clothes to workout in if you like to use the gym, -good walking shoes,
-your camera, and
-other personal toiletries.

Your cabin will have towels and soap provided, including pool and beach towels. It will also have a generic hair shampoo so you do not need to bring that unless you like a specific brand. They do not provide tooth paste, mouth wash or lotions. They DO provide a hair dryer.

- Its best to pack using soft-sided luggage because with space limited in your cabin it fits under the beds better if its not hard sided luggage.

- Pack using the vacuum clothing bags (about $20 for 3 at Target) so that you can get more in your bag AND so that if the TSA at the airport opens your bag they can see what's inside without rummaging through your things.

-Take a small carry-on bag for the last night of the cruise. On the last evening you will be required to put your luggage outside your cabin by about 2:00 AM so that they can start taking it down to the lower deck for offloading the next morning. So you will need a small bag for your toiletries and your clothes that you sleep in.

- If you can take a six-pack of bottled water and soft drinks in your carry-on for your cabin. You will have to pay for both on the ship and its nice to have those handy in the cabin.

- If you are taking your cell phone, MP3 player or other item that needs to be plugged in take an extension cord as the plugs in the cabin are generally not in the best places and there are usually only one or two.

- Take a small bottle of hand sanitizer and/or hand-wipes. There are generally sanitizer dispensers at the entrances of restaurants, the buffets and dining room, but some times the are not there or not working. The sanitizer helps prevent the spread of the Norwalk Virus that sometimes occur on cruise ships.

-If you plan to get into the pools or hot tub as soon as you get on ship, bring those clothes in your carry on bag; you other luggage may not get to your cabin until much later in the afternoon.

- Take a can of air freshener for your cabin bathroom. The bathrooms do not have exhaust fans.

- Take a few zip lock bags of various sizes; they always come in handy.

- Take some one dollar bills (also maybe a few $5's) for tipping the porters in the airport, at the pier (they do not work for the ship), and they will come in handy in port stops for buying small items in the markets and at vendor stands; especially bartering places.

The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is located in the Atlantic Ocean, east of Florida, north of Cuba and the Caribbean and consists of 700 islands.

The archipelago of the Bahamas has a total land area of 5,382 square miles and a population of approx. 310,000 concentrated on the islands of New Providence and Grand Bahama.

The islands have a subtropical climate, moderated by the Gulf Stream. Nassau is the capital and largest city, located on New Providence. The largest island is Andros Island. Freeport is the second largest city located on the island of Grand Bahama. The Caicos Islands and the Turks islands in the southeast, are not part of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

The subtropical to tropical climate is moderated significantly by the waters of the Gulf Stream, particularly in winter. Summer and autumn is hurricane season.

It's believed that Christopher Columbus first landed on the island of San Salvador in the southeastern Bahamas and exchanged gifts with the Amerindians, (Taino, also known as Lucayan).

Taino Indians moved into the southern Bahamas about the 7th century AD and became the Lucayans. They were deported to Hispaniola as slaves and Taino societies ceased to exist as a separate population due to forced labour, warfare, disease, emigration and outmarriage within 2 decades.

The Bahamian islands were deserted, after the Lucayans were destroyed, until English settlers arrived from Bermuda in 1650. These people established settlements on the island now called Eleuthera.

In 1718 the Bahamas became a British crown colony. It remained sparsely settled until the United States expelled thousands of American Tories and their slaves. About 8000 British Loyalists moved to the Bahamas in the late 1700s from New York, Florida and the Carolinas.

Internal self-government was granted by the British in 1964. In 1973, Bahamians achieved full independence while remaining a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The Bahamian economy has prospered on tourism and financial services. But the country still faces challenges in areas such education, healthcare, correctional facilites and violent crime and illegal immigration. Today, the country enjoys the third highest per capita income in the western hemisphere due to an urban renewal project to help impoverished urban areas in social decline in the main islands.

Some say the name 'Bahamas' derives from the Spanish for "shallow sea". Others trace it to the Lucayan word for Grand Bahama Island.

About 85% of the Bahamian population is black. The next largest population group are whites at 12%. Nearly all inhabitants speak English, being the official language. A considerable number also speak Haitian Creole, Spanish and Portuguese.

Christianity is the main religion on the islands, with Baptist forming the largest denomination (about one third), followed by the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches.

A large number of immigrants from Haiti, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Jamaica practice Obeah, a spiritistic religion similar to Voodoo. While well-known throughout the Bahamas, obeah is shunned by many people.

do people confuse the people from Dominican Republic with those from Dominica?

I posted in a previous question, "Why are Dominicans ignorant about their history?', that Dominicans are a mix of Spanish and African, and I get a response saying that being
Dominican is the same as being Black. To clarify, I'm talking about the people from the Dominican Republic, whose first colonists were Spaniards, that's why we speak the language. If I was talking about the people of Dominica, which is a Caribbean island that consists mostly of Blacks, and where the official language is English, then it would be strange for me to mention the Spaniards and language at all in this case. However, the Dominican Republic is a different country than Dominica, where there are not only Black people, but also white, mixed, and other kinds.

Remember the Dominican Rep. shares the same border as Haiti. For centuries there has been a lot of tensions between predominantly Black Haiti and predominantly Latino Dominican Republic. A lot of Dominicans view anything African as evil , ugly and Haitian. So it's not uncommon that most of them (even if some of them who have black ancestors)go to great lengths to refute or even deny their African roots and the influence of africa on their culture. it also has something to do with Dominican pride.

If you want to find a cheap all-inclusive family vacation, the keyword is - don't be in a hurry. If you rush, you will not only spoil the trip, but at the same time spend a fortune in the process. True, you need an escape after a year-long drudgery in your work place, the wife needs a break from her daily toil and the kid looks forward to an exiting holiday after the school has closed. But that does not necessarily mean that you must take the first available opportunity to go in for a cabin class booking in a cruise ship to Tahiti, especially when you are in a mood to find a cheap all-inclusive family vacation.

What you should do to find a cheap all-inclusive family vacation

To find a cheap all-inclusive family vacation, plan in advance and plan it together. Involve all the family members. That way they will enjoy it more. Mind you, it should be done much before the actual holiday starts. Check your budget. See if you can make it somewhat flexible. Then visit a travel agent.

Of course, you should be cautious. Quite a few travel agents are also trouble agents - dumping you in the middle of no-where after sucking you dry. If you are thinking in terms of surfing out the picture-post-card travel companies, allured by their colorful ad copy, you may go haywire as the hidden costs charged by them often become more than the printed fare displayed in the brochure.

Take my way, hit the highway. You can make a stop over wherever the scenic beauty appeals, spending the night in motel. Good restaurant food is available all over the United States - God save the MacDonald's. Otherwise, if you are intent on finding a cheap all-inclusive family vacation, select a reliable travel agent. Go tell them of your budget, your family members, number of adults, number of kids, number of days you want to spend and your probable destination.

A cheap all-inclusive family vacation package may at first seem to be costing more, but when you add up all of it - the fooding, accommodation, the traveling - you may be surprised how economic it may turn out. The reasons are simple. Most agents have arrangements with airline companies for availing huge discounts, so do not be shy - go ahead and ask for a discount. The same applies to hoteliers and pension arbors. Even food chain outlets keep them happy, offering discounts during holidays. As more and more people are added on the package trip, business grows - so grows the profit. Good travel agents are intelligent enough to share that added profit with their clients and so the package price goes even lower.

Plan your cheap all-inclusive family vacation package as a family. It is great fun to plan for a trip and when the entire family is involved, nothing can be better. It can only lead to spending quality time together and bonding.

Any of the Caribbean islands will offer you a vacation to remember. What makes the best vacation for one tourist may not be acceptable at all for another so the best vacation spots in Caribbean is really a matter of taste and style. Many vacationers choose the Caribbean mainly for the sun and sand and all of the islands will provide you with this. When you are more specific in your reasons for a vacation in this part of the world, then you can get more specific in the best vacation spots offering the opportunities you want.

If beaches are the main focus of your vacation, then you just have to choose Anguilla. Shoal Bay Beach is a stretch of silver sand where you can soak up the rays of the sun and engage in numerous activities, such as snorkelling with the wide array of colourful fish just below the surface of the water. Hike to Katouche Beach, which is the perfect location for a picnic in the shade of the large trees. Antigua is famous for its numerous beaches. It has been said that there is a beach here for every day of the year. The hotels and resorts are built right on the beaches which makes it very convenient. Aruba is also another island well-known for its beaches and has been named one of the 12 best beaches in the world.

For the best snorkelling locations, you don't have to go any further than Antigua. Most of the beaches on this island have clear, calm waters populated by numerous brightly colored marine life. Enjoy the sight of sea anemones and different elk and brain coral. Bonaire Marine Park on the island of Bonaire is another perfect location to choose. Here you can wade off the beach right next to your hotel to take in the sights of the underwater world.

Bonaire is also touted as the best diving destination in the Caribbean. There are many reefs surrounding the island that have not felt the effects of pollution because of the environmental laws of Bonaire. There are mountains under the water cause by volcanic eruptions and there are fringe reefs off just about every beach. The Virgin Islands is also another location for superb diving experiences. The wreck of the HMS Rhone, which sank off Salt Island, is one of the most popular with divers. Another world class diving location in the Caribbean is Grand Cayman Island where you have a full range of professional diving services at your disposal.

Just about every hotel and resort in the Caribbean provides small sailboats for the guests. However, if sailing is the reason for your vacation, the best spot to choose is the Grenadines. This is because sailing is a way of life on these islands, many of which are not accessible by air. The Virgin Islands are also excellent choices and is the destination of many yachters.

Golfers travel to the Caribbean to take in the best courses. The Tierra del Sol Golf Course on Aruba has been named the best golf course, but there are award winning courses in the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe and Jamaica as well. When you plan your vacation to the Caribbean, decide what you want in a vacation and then find the island that best meets that need.

Where to get married in Caribbean. Any suggestions?

My family are all in Europe, hers are here in the US so we would like to go to a neutral location. We would like a destination wedding. If you have been to a location on any island down there and would recommend it, please let me know. We are middle class folks and need a solution to suit our income. Thanks a million!

Of from Nassau over Pardise Island at "Atlantis" is a beautilful place to be wed. One thing they are kind of pricey but i'm sure you can find a good deal.

On Nassau on the strip of Cable Beach is Sandals which is amazing but if you have like young kids in your wedding party that might be a problem because they are more like an adult hotel. (maybe you can work something).

On Cape Eleuthera there is a Resort name "Cape Eleuthera Resort".

On Abaco there is " Abaco Beach Resort & Boat Harbour Marina", "Summer View Cottage" and "Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina"

On bimini there are "Bimini Bay Resort and Marina"

these are all islands of the Bahamas (in the caribbean)

Ever thought of taking a cruise vacation? If that is the case the following articles will give you a run down of the best liked spots as well as other information that you will find useful

We often think of cruising as a vacation that involves hot sunny places and sun kissed sandy beaches. However nowadays the truth is that these are only a few of the places that you can go for a cruse. Infact Alaska is currently the most common place people choose as cruise, hardly a place full of hot sunshine and sandy beaches!

But if going to Alaska sounds too cold for you don't despair because there are other popular destinations like for example the Caribbean. Also some cruises cater for specific countries. In Europe, the Scandinavian countries are very popular destinations and countries like England, France, Germany, France and Italy have also cruises going round their local beauty spots. Other places in the world that are very popular cruising destination include the Galapagos Islands, South America, Panama, Hawaii etc. Infact is it probable that if you have a special place that you would like to visit that there is also a cruise that goes there as well.

However irrespective of where it is that you want to visit there is some important information that applies to all cruises that you should be aware. Taking this information on board will without a shadow of doubt enhance your cruising experience.

First of all the one thing you ought to know is the best time of year for you to take the cruise you want. If you are single or a couple without kids then during the school terms would be the best time for you to take the cruise. This will obviously ensure that th trip will be devoid of screaming kids but more importantly because cruises tend to cater for families as a whole, this time of year will tend to be cheaper on your budget.

Going any time outside the months of May and August also ensures that you avoid many of the storms afflicting popular cruising destinations like the Caribbean as this tends to be the season when most of the hurricanes and tropical storms occur.

Make sure you visit your physician if you take a cruise outside of your countries as you may need certain inoculation needed to make you immune to certain diseases which you could be afflicted when you visit certain countries. Also if you suffer from sea sickness at all you should also obtain proper medicine to counter this as there might be turbulence on your cruise from time to time especially during the summer season. Even though this is not likely to happen if you plan properly it is always best to be safe than sorry.

Not sure about going on a caribbean cruise in January 2010?

Normally my husband and I cruise during the summer but we decided to go Jan. 2011 to celebrate our 15th anniversary. However, I'm not sure we would have a lot of fun because its doing the winter month. I want to know what the weather would be like and I also want to know if anyone could recommend a cruise doing that month and why?

The cruises I've taken that time of year have had great weather. It's nice to feel a bit of warmth during the middle of winter. I'd say temperatures have been around the mid 80s for us in December/January.

Good luck.

Disney cruises are some of the best and most sought after cruises in the world. There is a reason that they call their theme park The Magic Kingdom - they truly put give their guests a magical experience that they will never forget.

Unfortunately, the one thing that isn't quite so magical about Disney's cruises in the price. They can often cost as much as $1200 per person. Luckily, there are a few ways that you can save money on one of these cruises.

1. Use a Disney Rewards Visa credit card. If you make your purchase with this card, you'll automatically receive a credit for $50 to spend on your cruise. Since you're going to have to pay for the trip somehow, why not get a little bonus?

2. Work with an authorized Disney travel agent. Disney's travel agents have access to special deals and discounts that aren't available to other travel agents. All Season Travel is one such agency that you might try.

3. Buy Online. If you book your cruise online, you can get a $25 credit to use on your cruise. If you go through a travel agent, you can still request that they place the final order online.

4. Book two cruises. If you book two cruises at once, you will get 10% off the second cruise. You can also receive up to $200 onboard credit. This is an obvious option if you're planning on taking more than one Disney cruise, but what if you're not? Find someone who is. If you can find a friend, neighbor, or relative who is also planning on taking a Disney cruise - even at a different time - you could buy your cruises together and split the bonuses.

5. Find last minute deals. Sometimes people cancel their plans, and that leaves open spots on a cruise. Rather than leaving port with empty beds, Disney would rather sell them at a discounted rate. You might try checking sites like Expedia a month or two ahead of time to see if there are any last minute deals.

6. Combine them all! For maximum savings, you should combine all these methods. That would mean waiting for a last minute deal, calling up the authorized travel agent, buying 2 cruises at once, using your Disney Rewards card, and making sure your agent places the order online. Whew!

Have you ever dreamed of having a vacation home in a tropical paradise? If you are willing to invest a little time and research, you will be able to find many Caribbean vacation homes on the market.

Unlike visiting a Caribbean beach resort or a hotel, Caribbean vacation homes are a long term investment. Searching through web sites and talking to a few international real estate agents will put you on the right path. Having a real estate agent well versed in international sales might be your best bet.

Doing business online can be risky, as you wouldn't want to be taken in a scam and end up losing your money. An international agent will know all the ins and outs of the process and you'll most likely have a very specific paper trail by the time all is said and done.

Consider your budget carefully. Know exactly how much you want to spend and how much you'll be able to afford in the Caribbean vacation homes market. Visit a few different islands to see which one suits you best. There are a lot to choose from, each one more beautiful than the next, but since you're making such a big investment, you don't want to rush and find out later that there was something better someplace else.

While you might end up using the services of an agent, you can still do a lot of your searching online. The internet provides an endless resource for sales and locations. If you don't want to buy a home, maybe you can find one for rent. A Caribbean rental villa might be a better option for you if you don't want the long term commitment.

Of course, if you do decide on buying one of the available Caribbean vacation homes on the market, you also have to consider what you are going to do with it in the off-season. Will you leave the house empty or will you rent the house out to others?

Timeshares are also another alternative. With a timeshare, you and several other people are all buying a share in the same house or condo and you all schedule your times to visit throughout the year. With a timeshare, you pay for someone else to maintain the upkeep on the building.

When you're not there for the rest of the year, you don't have to worry about it at all. Timeshares can also be traded with other people around the world. You might be able to trade time in these Caribbean vacation homes with someone else on another island or another part of the world for time in theirs.

You can also check auction sites for Caribbean vacation homes. Auctions are a great place to get bargains and pay far less than you would going through some of the other sources. With all the choices available you are sure to find one that fits you. Before you know it, you will be looking forward to plenty of days in your vacation home.

Any family vacation ideas/suggestions?

I am trying to plan a family vacation for the last week in December. Does anyone have any suggestions on where we should go? We will be traveling with a 22 month old and are looking for someplace that is kid AND adult friendly. FYI: we just got back from the Caribbean and are interested in traveling within the states.

Thanks!
Has anyone been to Martha's Vineyard?

Actually, I'm trying to win that Beaches vacation in the Subway Scramble, but I can't get an "S".

In which country do people actually live in beach style huts on or near the beach?

I am just curious in which countries throughout the Pacific, Caribbean, South America or Central America where it's possible to live in a beach hut very close to OR actually live on a tropical style beach. I am not talking of a popular tourist attraction like Fiji or Tahiti where people pay big bucks to vacation in a raised hut but rather I am wanting to know which poor nations you might commonly find small huts built right on or very close to a tropical beach. You sometimes see these in music videos and in movies as well. Thanks.
