caribbean vacation what to pack

Family cruises are a great way to do something exciting and not just the same old traditional vacation trip. They may be the answer to your children's complaints about visiting the same old amusement parks. Are roadside tourist traps losing the thrill they used to generate? It is definitely time for something new if you answered yes. When you go on one of the family cruises that are available with most any major cruise line, your entire family will get the kind of vacation they want.

Family cruises allow you to spend quality time with your family, away from the pressures of everyday life. This guide will help you find what you need when you're planning your dream cruise.

There are family cruises available that will fit almost any vacation budget. If you're trying to keep your costs down, then check out the family cruise packages that are available with most major cruise lines. Just use the Internet to find out about all the different family cruises that are available. After you have selected a cruise that sounds good, review all the services that they include.

If your traditional family reunions are becoming a bit stale, how about a family reunion cruise? Choose a cruise package that offers enough of a selection of activities so that everyone will have fun. There are so many activities available on most cruises that you will never fit everything into your schedule. These family cruises are truly memorable for the whole family.

And just because you have a baby or toddler doesn't mean you should rule out family cruises. Many cruise ships will make a baby crib available in your cabin, and some also provide child care facilities for very young children. If your children are a little older, they'll find more than enough to keep them occupied. Cruise ships offer fun activities like games and contests, parties, escorted tours, and many others. And for adults, there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied too! Adult activities include things like swimming, dining, gambling and dancing.

For family cruises, its especially important that you find out about cancellation policies and onboard medical facilities. But family cruises offered by the major cruise lines have usually thought of everything beforehand, so your main job will just be to kick back and relax once the ship leaves the home port.

There are a lot of different reasons why family cruises make perfect sense for your next vacation. These cruises offer you some quality time spent having fun with your family, without the interruptions of the everyday world. And the hassle that comes with hosting family get-togethers is lifted when you opt for a family reunion cruise. And cruises set sail at all times of the year, making it convenient to plan a trip around everyones vacation times. And on family cruises you might even find a little time to rekindle your romance with your spouse, while the kids are busy with all the onboard activities.

What are some last minute items to bring on my vacation?

I'm going on a cruise in a few days and my bags are almost packed up with everything I need. But I always forget to pack things in my suitcase or my carry on. So, what are some last minute things to pack in before I forget? I am going on a carnival cruise to the Caribbean for 6 days, if that helps. Thanks.

The Caribbean is one of the world's favorite cruise destinations and there is always a rush to book suitable vacation packages. The most popular cruise times are Christmas, just after Easter, and the summertime. Planning a vacation several months ahead and getting suitable bookings done early enough would be a wise move. Early bookings often get competitive rates.

It is always good to gather some general information about a proposed vacation destination. Cruise liners offer their best rates during the months of January, May, September, October, November and first two weeks of December. If you want a smooth sailing experience, then June is the month to plan your vacation in as the Caribbean sees the smoothest seas in June. February is the month for the roughest seas and is best avoided. The general forecast for the Caribbean is that the most likely time for hurricanes is in the month of September.

All inclusive Caribbean cruises are a wonderful way to unwind and relax. All inclusive is a concept that refers to all the expenses of the vacation paid in a lump sum usually upfront. Once this is done one can just sit back and relax, without having to worry about paying for each and every thing.

Your all inclusive Caribbean cruises could be a Western Caribbean cruise starting from Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, or Port Canaveral and going on to New Orleans or Galveston, and sometimes Baltimore and Charleston. Typical ports of call on this route are Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Cancun (Calica), Belize, and Key West.

The other route is an Eastern Caribbean route where the ports of call would include San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maartin, Nassau, or Labadee. Many cruise lines have access to private islands. These islands are used for barbecues and water activities. An all inclusive cruise would entitle you to the use of all on-board amenities.

If the cruise is along a Southern Caribbean route then the ports of call would include Aruba, Curacao, Barbados, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Johns (Antigua), St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Martinique, Caracas (Venezuela), Dominica, Guadeloupe, Catalina Island (Dominican Republic), Grenada, St. Croix, St. Barts, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda.

I am getting ready to book a solo cruise on Carnival. I have never been on Carnival. Are they nice ships?

I have a travel agent and the cruise I am interested in is an 8 day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean (Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, Bahamas, & Nassau Bahamas). I will be going in June 2009 as a 40th birthday present to myself. I have never been to Grand Turk. Is it nice?

Have been on two Carnival Cruises and loved them both. The Grand Turks and Caicos are impossibly gogeous. However, bear in mind that there are no rates for singles - in other words, if you want a cabin for yourself, you will have to pay for a second person, whether you've got one with you or not. Be sure to get at least an outside cabin with window. Hey, free room service, maid service - you're waited on hand and foot - have a blast.

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and some would say the best island to book holiday villas or apartments. I'm sure the ten million people who visit the island every year and book holiday rental accommodation Spain, be it a hotel room, a luxury holiday in Spain villa or a modest apartment here would definitely agree. Mallorca can be a fantastic destination for families with children of all ages as it offers many family-friendly resorts like Cala San Vicence or Puerto Pollensa, which are located near sandy beaches which have safe, shallow waters and good facilities nearby.

Families often find that there can be many benefits if you book self-catering rental accommodation Spain instead of hotel accommodation, particularly if you have young children. If you choose holiday villas or apartments booked direct with the owner of the property you are in an ideal position to ask questions about the property or the location before you travel. If you want to travel light you may want to know what facilities are provided in a holiday in Spain villa. If a washing machine and dryer is available you will not have to pack so many clothes and the same goes for beach towels and equipment. Knowing what to bring and what you can leave behind can make life a lot easier when you are travelling with a family.

Some people choose self-catering holiday villas or apartments so that they can do their own cooking. A lot of people prefer this if they have children (or adults) who won't eat unfamiliar food. In Mallorca restaurants in the tourist areas tend to cater for northern European tastes and you will have to search for authentic Spanish food. Most supermarkets stock German and British products as well as Mallorcan goods so if you want to cook your own meals in your holiday in Spain villa or apartment rental accommodation in Spain you should be able to find some familiar ingredients.

Travelling with children to your rented holiday villas or apartments in Mallorca is less stressful if you get organized before you go. If you decide to fly to Mallorca you will want to prevent the kids from becoming bored and grouchy on the journey. For small children why not put together a bagful of toys and simple games to take with you to keep them amused on the journey? Put in some familiar things and some little surprise items. For older children MP3 players or portable game consoles are ideal but remember to bring chargers or plenty of batteries! We would also recommend that you pack some snacks and drinks for the kids so that they don't get too hungry or thirsty en route.

Although the main attraction for booking holiday villas or apartments in Mallorca may be the fabulous beaches and great weather there is more to the island than this. When you feel like a change from the seaside or poolside try a day trip to Palma, the beautiful capital of Mallorca. There you can see stunning gothic architecture of the La Seu cathedral or wander through the winding streets or simply wander round the shops and then spend a pleasant hour or two over lunch in one of the excellent restaurants. If you don't want to travel too far most towns in Mallorca have weekly markets, where you can buy local produce as well as some nice souvenirs and gifts.

Once you have booked your holiday villas or apartments and flights there are a couple of other things you need to arrange. One of these is car-hire and the other is travel insurance. If you want to explore the island and go further afield than just the beach you may want to consider hiring a car. You can arrange this before you go but remember to take your driving licence. Another important consideration is holiday travel insurance. Some people don't bother with travel insurance or only have minimum cover but it is worth contacting a reputable insurance broker and taking advice on what sort of cover you need.

Grand Bahama island is the closest major island to the United States. It is one of the most northern islands in the Bahamas and is a popular tourist destination because of the great weather and scenic beaches. Contrary to popular belief, Grand Bahama island is only the fourth largest island in the Bahamas.

Grand Bahama island is a paradise destination for any traveler with a great relaxing atmosphere throughout. There are 4 important cities on the island. If you arrive by cruise ship like so many other holiday makers you will land in Freeport. Freeport is the location of the commercial shipping harbor and international airport. You will find many pristine ocean and canal front properties in Freeport with property prices being up to 20% lower than on the Florida coast.

Beautiful beaches and several luxury hotels can be found at Lucaya. The most popular 5 star hotel is the "Our Lucaya" hotel chain that consists of the Sheraton and Westin hotels and the Lanai Suites located at Lighthouse Point. Each of these hotels is 5 star luxury with numerous heated swimming pools and spa facilities.

Although many people believe Freeport to be the capital, it is actually West end. Recent investment in the area has led to many hotels and luxury resorts being built around this western most area of the island as well as a complete refurbishment of the docks area and many new canals being cut for luxury homes and condos.

The entire island is a paradise in the sun with some of the best beaches in the world. Activities on the island can be as relaxing or as energetic as you like. If you love to sit on the beach then there are miles of glorious sun drenched beaches for you to enjoy. If you prefer something a little more energetic then there are the world class scuba diving areas as well as every water sport imaginable. Grand Bahama island contains one of the worlds largest under water cave systems. Para gliding and jet skiing are common place around the islands beaches and mariner.

At night time the island doesn't simply go to sleep. There are casinos and bars scattered throughout the resorts and hotels on the island and world class restaurants around every corner.

A few travel tips.

1. The banks are open Monday to Thursday 9.30 - 3.30 and Friday 9.30 - 5.00.

2. The island temperatures are warm all year around. 85F - 90F, Although there are winds that blow most of the year this is still a tropical climate so plenty of sun cream and summer clothing.

3. The official currency is the Bohemian Dollar but both US and Bohemian dollars are accepted throughout the island.

4. Each adult visitor is allowed to bring 50 cigars, 200 cigarettes or one pound of tobacco, one quart of spirits, and a variety of personal effects (personal radio headsets, bicycle, two still cameras, etc.). Purchases up to a value of one hundred dollars are permitted by all arriving passengers.

5. All visitors must pay $18.00 departing tax when leaving the island.

6. British rules apply to driving so drive on the left and expect the pesky roundabouts.

7. Spear fishing using scuba gear and possession of spear guns are illegal in The Bahamas. Cruising boats must clear Customs at the nearest port of entry before beginning any diving or fishing activities. A permit is required for visiting vessels to engage in sports fishing at a cost of $20 per trip or $150 per year for vessels on which not more than six reels will be used.

8. The official language on Grand Bahama island is English....United Kingdom English, which will sound a little strange if you are used to American English.

9. There is no import duties on Perfumes and Fragrances, Crystal, Leather Goods, Jewelry, Fine Linens and Tablecloths, Watches and Clocks, Photographic Equipment, China, Binoculars, and Telescopes, therefore they are all duty free!

10. Grand Bahama island is on Eastern standard time.

Grand Bahama is a great Vacation destination for anybody. The beaches are spotless and the sea is crystal clear and warm. The weather is great and the people are so friendly. Its hard to imagine anybody not wanting to visit Grand Bahama island.

South Padre Island, Texas, is a small beach resort town on the eastern tip of Cameron County in the Rio Grande Valley. Situated at the tropical tip of Texas, it lies between Laguna Madre Bay and the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Tropical temperature and availability of endless opportunities make the town a year-round destination. The town offers a variety of accommodation including family motels, campgrounds, condo rentals, hotels, seaside cottages, and marinas.

Spanish Explorer Alonso Alvarez de Pineda was one among the first to reach the island. The town had been sparsely populated till early 1900's. The town rose to importance as a tourist location in the second half of the 20th century. Today South Padre is frequented not only by Texans, but people from all over the world. The town's primary claim to fame is as a spring break destination. More and more people now realize that South Padre is truly a tourist destination for all seasons.

With only about 3,000 year-round residents, South Padre is an ideal resort town for those who cherish solitude. The island is home to about 300 species of birds. Every imaginable kind of water sports is available on the shores. These include deep-sea fishing, parasailing, bay fishing, windsurfing, and sailing. Other activities include sightseeing, miniature golf, shopping, cinemas, and fun games. Spring, summer, and late winter are the best seasons to visit.

Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark, one the most famous water parks in the United States, is located in this town. Other attractions include Osprey fishing trips, the island's equestrian center, Andy Bowie County Park, and South Padre Island Golf Club.

Where should we go on vacation?

This year we're going to take a special island vacation but we're having troubles finding the perfect place. Our budget (including airfare, hotel/rental, and car) is around $5000. We were originally wanting to go to Hawaii again but airfare is already so expensive ($800) and is expected to rise this spring. We are looking for a place with amazing beaches, not too touristy or overcrowded, and with great snorkeling. We're going in late June into early July for 7-10 days, 10 days if there's more than one island that we're going to hop to. It's a family vacation but the youngest is 15 so there aren't any little kids. I've looked into most islands in the Caribbean and haven't decided against any of them but it's been hard finding nice places to stay for a slightly reasonable price. Hope this is enough info. Any suggestions? Thanks!

This isn't the right category but this is what it came up with and I don't know how to change it, sorry.
We do have passports.

Look up an Orlando theme park called Discovery Cove. I've been there. Its an AMAZING experience

The dream vacation for every child is a Disney Cruise vacation. The great thing about a Disney cruise vacation is that not only do the children have a blast, but also the parents get to enjoy all the great benefits of a cruise. Whether you opt to take the Disney Magic Cruise or the Disney Wonder Cruise, rest assured you will receive all the 5 star benefits from 24 hour room service, delectable food, entertainment for all ages, and some of the greatest memories ever thought possible to make with your family.

Disney Cruise lines take you and your family's safety in utmost importance. From any of their exciting itineraries from a 3 or 4 night cruise to the Bahamas to a 7 might cruise to the Eastern or Western Caribbean you can rest assured that your safety is always being considered from the moment you step foot on the ship until they safely return you back. Even when docking at exciting retreats such as Castaway Cay, safety checks are put in place to ensure everyone is accounted for.

Disney Cruise Lines offer family estate rooms so your family stays together. If extended family is coming along to enjoy the experience, Disney Cruise Lines will do everything possible to make sure your rooms are all located adjacent to each other. No child under the age of 18 is allowed to get off the ship at any port of call unless an adult is with them showing proper kinship, or the responsible adult party signs for them to go ashore. The day care center aboard ship is equipped with pagers so at all times the parents can have piece of mind in knowing that if their child or the staff needs them they will know immediately. You cannot even get that piece of mind in a land based daycare center.

Before the ship will even leave dock to start your exciting adventure upon sea, required by Coast Guard and the International Safety Regulations, and highly supported by Disney Cruise Lines, every passenger must participate in the compulsory safety drill. Other safety guidelines that are strictly followed are the picture identification system. Even adults are required to show picture ID to embark or disembark at any port.

On top of highly secured railings on the decks, Plexiglas is also in place for the safety of all passengers and especially children. There is onboard physician and nurses available 24/7 for any medical needs that may arise. However, as a passenger you are required to make sure that you bring along an ample supply of any maintenance medication you may medically need in the original prescription bottle.

Common sense goes a long way when vacationing anywhere so before embarking on any cruise talk with your family and make sure you have your own personal check systems in place as well. Disney Cruises does everything in its power to ensure you a safe and enjoyable cruise filled with wonderful memories; however, nothing can compare with using your common sense and having your own safety check practices in place.

Fundraising programs are a vital part of life for every non-profit organization and charity. Bowling and golf tournaments along with carnivals and bake sales are typical fundraising sources as well as selling products.  Many of us would be disappointed if the Girl Scouts stopped selling cookies or the Boy Scouts discontinued their popcorn sale. However, many other organizations are clamoring for a new source of fundraising or are wearily selling the same overpriced catalog items to people who would rather just donate the equivalent of what would have been earned by the charity selling that overpriced gift wrapping paper.  These all raise funds with varying degrees of achievement with the most successful ones being driven by a hard-working group of volunteers, good community support and possibly even the association of a celebrity.

If your organization, church or charity is in a rut and you are looking for an exciting new way to raise needed money, consider putting together a group cruise to help bump up your bank account's balance! A group cruise is a terrific way to bring people together, have fun and to meet many goals of your organization such as:

  • Raise funds - Successful cruise events raise money.  And the larger the program and group, the more money that can be raised. Fifty couples or families on a seven day cruise can earn at least $10,000.  Ultimately how much can be made depends on the program which is put together for you.
  • Raise awareness - Cruises get attention.  Organizations promoting cruise fundraisers can get a lot of attention in both local media and by word-of-mouth.  Whether you run a full media blitz or advertise on a smaller scale, people will be talking about the cruise (and your organization!)  Even an organization with the smallest of "PR" staff can easily build momentum.  To be successful, your organization needs to get the word out so that people are familiar with it.
  • Customized cruise for your group - There sometimes seems an almost infinite number of ways, large or small, to make your group stand out from any other cruise vacation someone can experience. From a shipboard celebration such as a "birthday party" with a cake for your charity's anniversary to door signs that gain the attention and awareness of all of the ship's guests who walk by, the trip can be a standout event in many positive ways!
  • Educational - If your organization would like to include educational seminars or have a trade show pertaining to its subject, it's easy to arrange as part of the program. Or perhaps gift bags for all of the participants which also contain the latest materials on the organization's accomplishments and goals.
  • Generate support - Support equals success whether it means others being encouraged to join your volunteers or by people remembering you at other times of the year as one of their preferred charities. When people come together in a spirit of giving and fun, you'll find that it's a win-win event for everyone with a terrific trickle down effect that benefits your organization.
  • Camaraderie of those with common goals and interests - Though perhaps not a primary goal of your organization, many relationships-friends, love and business--- can be forged during a cruise. Again, good will and positive experiences; all because of your fundraising cruise group.
  • Build momentum - With a successful cruise event, you can build an annual trip that brings together your organization's members, supporters and community participants who will become bigger supporters.  People talk about their vacations for years, they share photos, they Tweet and Facebook about it.  You get to ride the wave each time the "XYZ Charity Cruise" is mentioned.
  • Recognize efforts - There are often a few key people whose work is invaluable for the success of an organization.  A cruise is a wonderful way to recognize these people. Special recognition can be given to exceptional volunteers or your largest donors. You can even use one of your earned free cruises to give to one of these exceptional people.

Last, but not least, booking a fundraising group cruise will not only be fun for families and friends, it is a super benefit to your worthy cause!
