Every month there are many cruises out of the port of Galveston to destinations like Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico and other European destinations. The Ecstasy and Conquest ships of the Carnival cruises offer 4 to 7 day trips. There are ample entertainment options and activities onboard the cruises to the Caribbean Islands.

The Royal Caribbean's ship the Voyager of the Seas offers fortnight return trips to Spain and week long trips to the Caribbean Islands. The other ships of the Carnival Cruises are smaller than the Voyager of the Seas hence having lesser entertainment options. There are excellent entertainment opportunities on board all cruise ships but the Voyager of the Seas is the outdoor enthusiast's heaven as there are many recliners and pools to enjoy the sun.

It is the one of Carnival Cruises largest ships to sail out of Galveston to the western and eastern Caribbean islands. The ship, Conquest, has facilities like the indoor stadium, a water park, 4 swimming pools, a gymnasium and a movie theatre. There are Vegas style shows in the Toulouse-Lautrec show lounge, dance clubs, various restaurants and bars.

The ports of calling for the Conquest are the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Cayman Islands and Jamaica. Each of these stops is an opportunity to explore the undersea life, the sun the surf and the sand through activities like wind-surfing, sea-surfing, SCUBA diving, snorkelling, deep sea diving and various. Each of these cruises - on board the Carnival Conquest - which leaves Galveston once a month - will cost you anywhere from $ 500 to $2000.

isn't it ridiculous that downloading music & movies is illegal?

i can buy a CD from a store and make a copy to give to a friend but downloading it is illegal.

it is ridiculous how greedy the RIAA and these music companies are. talking about loosing millions due to "illegal downloads" now they wont be able to add another hummer to their collection

so we shouldn't download anymore music and movies anymore because these billionaires will lose millions and celebrities will not be able to buy another mansion in the caribbean islands.

i mean, it would suck to only have 100 cars and 20 houses

yes, considering they raise the prices of movie tickets, concert tickets, the salary of stars every year, yet they still do sh**ty movies that we pay for, and then they say they dling movies and music hurts the business. they make millions every year.

baby and holiday jabs!!!?

i have a 3 month old baby, we want to go on holiday to the caribbean, does anyone know or have any experience about giving young babies travel vaccination's?? i am going next wednesday for her check up/injection's, so obviously will ask them, just thought i'd ask for some ones experience/knowledge, thanks in advanced!!
oooohhhhh thanks babe!! (bla-bla)

Hi

For the exact details on injections then you can see here per country http://www.nathnac.org/ds/c_pages/country_page_JM.htm#vpr

Just thought I would warn you though - the consultatieburo may well shrug their shoulders and say "I don't know". I'm off to Bosnia soon and went there last year, so have been through the rigmarole already.

Best thing you can do is to contact the local branch of the GGD http://www.ggdkennisnet.nl/kennisnet/inkaart/ They can give your baby the injection he/she needs. The consultatieburo will only give the nationally agreed (free ones) but won't do others.

One note - I just moved and the GGD in my location require you to make an appointment 3 months in advance of travel. Fortunately I contacted the branch where I used to live and am still registered and could make an appointment for within 2 weeks instead. Otherwise there is a branch at Schiphol which can do it at short notice - but I did hear from a colleague that you tend to have to wait around in a waiting room for a long time which is no fun with a little one in tow!

There are also some GP's that specialise in holiday vaccinations so you can always ask your huisarts as well instead

Good luck :0)

(For anyone else reading it - I'm not making up names, we both live in the Netherlands!)

Mauritius, an emerald jewel in the Indian Ocean, attracts large numbers of holidaymakers who flock there for the sun, sea and silvery sands. But increasingly, the hotels in Mauritius are playing host to visitors looking for a different kind of 's' - scuba diving!

The warm waters that lap the island's shores are popular with underwater fans of all levels who enjoy year-round diving holidays in Mauritius. A coral reef extends around the entire island creating an enchanting, underwater playground. If you are a beginner, you can explore the shallows close to shore, and most hotels in Mauritius will offer an expert to guide you through your dive. The more adventurous underwater explorer can head out to one of the many wrecks or caves around the island.

The Cathedral

This popular site is located off the Flic en Flac on the western coast of Mauritius and is definitely a "must-visit" site on your diving holiday to Mauritius. The dive begins at 18m, then drops very sharply to nearly 30m. Although the bottom is quite sandy and bare, along the cracks and crevices of the chamber you can make the acquaintance of an abundance of marine life characters. You may brush shoulders with Gropers, Wrasse, Sweetlip, Angelfish and Clownfish. You will see scores of shrimp and crayfish on the move as well - perhaps enjoying their own holidays in Mauritius! The dive narrows along a kind of chute and then opens out into a large cathedral-like cavern illuminated by filtered sunlight. The diffused light gives the site an almost ethereal aura, but beware of the giant Moray Eel that dwells in the dark recesses of the cave!

Rempart Serpent

It is easy to see how this unusual site got its name. Literally translating to "Snake Reef", this incredible rocky pocket is over 100m long. As its mesmerising blanket of seaweed bends and sways in the slow moving waters, it resembles a slow moving snake sliding across the ocean floor. Strangely barren looking, Rempart Serpent is not only home to the usual brightly coloured tropical fish, but also home to huge numbers of sinister looking stonefish, scorpion fish, lionfish and Moray Eels. Most hotels in Mauritius will arrange diving excursions to this unique site under the guidance of a knowledgeable marine expert.

Stella Maru

Any diving holiday in Mauritius should include an expedition to at least one wreck site. The waters around the island are home to many easily accessible wrecks, but one of the most striking is that of the Stella Maru, at Trou aux Biches on the North West coast. Resting at a depth of around 25m, the Stella Maru is an old Japanese trawler sent to a watery grave in 1987. Although sunk on her side, her huge bulk now sits upright on the ocean floor after a massive cyclone in 2002. Relatively intact, the Stella Maru is an imposing sight, made all the more dramatic by the vibrant surrounding coral and hordes of exotic tropical fish darting by. Huge Moray eels have also made their home in its bulkhead. This is a particularly good site for keen underwater photographers looking to capture some amazing images while on their holidays to Mauritius.

Expedia promotion codes provide consumers with the lowest fares and rates imaginable. If you are planning a vacation or business trip, you can search online for Expedia deals. Last year, this company helped travelers save up to $450 per trip, and this year looks to be just as promising! Not only will the site help you save, it will also help you plan out every aspect of your trip. You will receive recommendations on hotels, cruises, activities, and more.

Some of the most popular destinations on which you will find the best deals are Hawaii, Vegas, Mexico, Orlando, and New York. However, there are still plenty of Expedia promotion codes available for other destinations around the world. Sometimes the cheapest option is to choose a package that includes airfare, hotel accommodation, and activities. For instance, if you want to fly to NYC on a specific airline and stay for at least three nights, you might be able to get a fourth night free if you choose the right package. Some hotels work together with airlines to provide consumers with the most affordable rates.

Sometimes vacation plans must be canceled. While Expedia doesn't always charge cancellation fees, the hotels, airlines, and cruise lines do. For this reason, you need to make sure you understand the cancellation policies before booking your trip. If you are using any promotion codes, read over the terms and conditions to see if you can find anything about cancellation fees or refunds.

caribbean island aruba

caribbean island aruba

From a traveler's point of view, Aruba can be divided into two coasts. The southeast coast has the white sand beaches, turquoise seas, and warm waters. The northwest coast is exposed to the Atlantic, and therefore has rougher seas with treacherous currents and a rockier coastline. These two extremes contribute to Aruba's growing reputation for being a "Desert Paradise".

Weather in Aruba

Unlike a desert, Aruba's weather is mostly the same, having no extremes, while maintaining relatively consistent temperatures. But because of its more southern location in the Caribbean, the heat of the sun can be stronger than other Caribbean islands. A constant light breeze tempers the hot sun to create a cooling effect. The lack of rain is what really marks Aruba as a desert paradise. Most other Caribbean islands have a wet season and are prone to storms and hurricanes. Yet according to the information gathered by American Express Travel, the weather is almost always dry in Aruba, with most rain showers coming at night and lasting only a little while. Aruba is also on the outer hurricane zone, meaning it is rarely hit or affected by other storms.

With this lack of rain comes a lack of the lush vegetation that the other Caribbean islands are known for. The combination of comparatively sparse vegetation, and the seemingly endless beach, Aruba is definitely a desert island. But all things considered, Aruba is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. Most tourists see Aruba as remotely luxurious. And while this island of endless sand seems a bit like a desert, the waters bloom with tropical fish, perfect for diving, snorkeling, and fishing.

How Much Does it Cost and How to Save Money

Some travelers consider Aruba a relatively expensive place to go. However, while Aruba flights tend to be more expensive, hotels are often better deals. Unlike the Florida Keys or the Bahamas, Aruba is a long flight from almost all major airports. Aruba's pricing is best described as moderate, offering both upscale and moderate accommodations and packages. There are some upscale hotels in Aruba who offer American Express Travel Deals, bringing the high end pricing down to something more reasonable. If you plan to do a lot of activities or dine out a lot, it's a good idea to purchase a Visit Aruba discount card. With this card you can get deals in a lot of places, sometimes a 5-10% discount. You can also take a look at Free Discount Coupons to save some money. American dollars are accepted virtually everywhere at a decent exchange rate. The exchange rate given in shops is about 1.75 florins to the dollar.

Like most island destinations, American Express Travel representatives say that groceries and other supplies are all imported from elsewhere, so prices tend to be high. Ling & Sons Grocery is the closest to the resort area which has good prices, high quality and is one of the least known to tourists.

You may be under the impression that cruise holidays are only for the rich and famous but there are so many reasons to choose a cruise holiday. Of course, the main reason is that you are able to travel around the world in totally luxurious comfort - your travel is looked after and everything is laid on for you. Cruise ships are the still the very height of decadence and luxury and many offer all the same amenities - if not many more - as some of the world's most exclusive holiday destinations.

Although the price of a cruise holiday might seem pretty high at first, be aware that the fee will include your accommodation, flights and other travel, most of your food, soft drinks and tea and coffee and on board activities like the cinema, dancing and other entertainment. The variety of catering choices on board cruise ships is amazing. Most ships will have several restaurants which will serve a wide choice of cuisines and offer different dining styles from formal to buffet. The buffets on board cruise ships are usually 24 hour so you can eat when you please and there is always a room service menu too. Most ships will have no extra costs involved at all, so there are no hidden charges to catch you out. However, there may be an extra cost for alcoholic drinks so check with your cruise agent before booking.

A cruise holiday is a great time to relax on deck and catch up with all the reading you've been meaning to do over the past year. But, should you want to try out some different activities, there are plenty of things to do on board from swimming to playing Bridge to keep you occupied. The variety of entertainment on offer in an evening also means that there is something for everyone, from musical shows to comedy acts. Families often choose cruise holidays for the choice of activities alone.

Student Living in Hawaii (or similar island) for a month?

I'm thinking about studying 'island life' for a month by going to Hawaii or a similar Caribbean island; the trip would be mostly paid for by my school but I was wondering what the most cost effective way of living for a month there would be. Would a hostel be best or would it be more worth while to rent a cheap hotel/bed and breakfast room? I would be staying with 3 or 4 other students.
Any ideas?
Would a condo be the best bet?
I am well aware that people in Hawaii don't live in huts, my family used to own a house in Kauai. And I also know that Hawaii and the Caribbean are different -- my project is about island society, how people come to inhabit islands and how life there is different since they're surrounded by water.
After doing a little research, I found a condo on Oahu for 2,000 dollars a month. However, I am now considering Barbados too!

Hostel would be cheapest, around $1000/month. Unfortunately most of your stuff would probably be stolen (figure the odds).
Next best is to share a condo 4 ways, that's $500 each, plus minimum $100/week for food + transportation, etc..

I would be happy to introduce you to my Polynesian, Micronesian and Haole friends. Each has a different view on your anthropological question.

grand oasis caribbean resort reviews

Puerto Vallarta is one of the most popular resort areas in Mexico, but most of its hotels are stamped from a similar mold. A few rise above the typical all-inclusive template, however, and deliver more.

At the luxury end of the scale, the Puerto Vallarta region has several world-class resorts that are fixtures on annual travel magazine best-of lists. Here are the top resorts in the region, according to the upscale review site Luxury Latin America.

Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita

Four Seasons Resort at Punta Mita has set the bar high, virtually unreachable by others, by building a hotel surrounded by one of Mexico's best golf courses and a series of ultra-luxurious timeshares, deeded private villas and custom homes. The entire operation has earned Four Seasons its reputation as the premier resort of Mexico's Pacific Coast. The free-form infinity pool and main restaurant look out on one of the most dramatic views you could long for, with no other hotel in site. With superior service, a highly regarded spa, and casitas furnished with the very best, this is the clear winner for those with plenty of money to burn.

Casa Las Brisas

This seven-room resort sits on a beautiful stretch of sand that puts most others in the area to shame, is just around the bend from the Four Seasons. Casa Las Brisas is made up of two large beach houses that were combined into a carefully planned inn, surrounded by homes rather than other hotels. With amazing views of the crashing waves and top-notch food and décor, this fine small hotel attracts discerning travelers who come once and end up making plans to return before checking out. The helpful staffers are always at the ready and the all-inclusive plan here is a far cry from the usual buffets and bottom-shelf cocktails.

Grand Velas All Suites & Spa Resort

This resort has created a refreshing twist on the all-inclusive concept: a contemporary design, spacious rooms, consistently good restaurants, and premium liquor service set this distinctive resort apart from the rest. Even the smallest accommodations are junior suites with a nice-sized Jacuzzi. All rooms have balconies with panoramic views, marble décor, quality custom furniture, and come loaded with plenty of amenities. Popular among celebrities and sophisticated travelers, Nuevo Vallarta's Grand Velas Grand Velas is an oasis of elegance, offering upscale style and superior service. This is the finest large all-inclusive resort in the Puerto Vallarta region.

Casa Velas Hotel Boutique

This 80-room resort, conveniently located one mile from the airport, is a small luxury hotel adjoining a golf course. It is a nice option if you're seeking a serious golf getaway with only occasional beach time, minus the garish tourist extras that other all-inclusives often include. Despite the rotating ownership of this small hotel in the past, Casa Velas seems to be settling into its own quite nicely now, with an expanded spa and improved restaurant that is attracting plenty of couples looking for seclusion away from the big crowds.

Hacienda San Angel

This stellar boutique hotel provides impeccable attention to detail in both design and service, and may leave you breathless with its beauty and charm--if you arrive with an open mind. There are three tiled pool areas with cushioned lounges, fountains, tropical flowers, and tile work around every corner, touches that illustrate the owner's obvious devotion to good design and aesthetics. A terrace hot tub allows you to soak under the stars with a view of the church's lit bell tower. This is not a beach hotel; it is located in the historic center of Puerto Vallarta, with sweeping views of the city and bay. What it lacks in water access it more than makes up in superior aesthetics and sense of place.

Westin Resort & Spa

With a meandering shady pool complex, a hopping Nikki Beach bar, and well-equipped rooms, the Westin is the best beach pick for full-service style and comfort in the heart of Puerto Vallarta proper. The sprawling grounds and three towering pyramid buildings overlook the Marina area. The unique minimalist style of renowned architect Javier Sordo Madaleno evokes an atmosphere of surprises that stretches from the fancy cabanas to the imposing hallways. The biggest draw is the magnificent series of pools, complete with excellent shade coverage, comfortable wooden chaises, and several clever tile pool lounges built so you can catch rays while staying cool.

caribbean vacation luxury

caribbean vacation luxury

The Caribbean Islands are definitely a wonderful place to have a vacation in. This is an archipelago of several islands that have been conveniently divided into the Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles. The Greater Antilles contain the larger islands of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands. The Lesser Antilles contain a host of small islands such as Aruba, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Saint Barthelemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Martin, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and the US Virgin Islands. Most of these places are great to visit during your Caribbean vacation.

However, there are some things to remember.

1. These islands have all different governments. They are small countries in themselves. Hence, they have different rules and regulations. What you could do in one of them, you may not be able to do in another. It is highly important that you learn the basic tourist's rules and regulations before heading out to any destination in the Caribbean, and that applies to each place you visit. The Caribbean governments enforce their rules very strictly; it is essential you are well-acquainted with them. Not knowing a particular law because you are a tourist isn't an excuse.

2. The same applies to airport rules. Different airports give different kinds of permissions and have different kinds of restrictions on what you can carry and what you cannot.
