i personally like cancun.and at this time of year it is down season and not crowded.they have great beaches,great food,with the exchange rate you get good bang for your buck,and most hotels offer good all inclusive deals with most hotels,such as the grand oasis,and grand royal solaris,having several restaurants inside of the hotel compound.its a great place to relax,see alittle culture if you want,shop, or lay on the beach and do nothing. costa rico is pretty nice too but the flight is almost as long as argentina.

Sometimes you can get a house on a lake for a month, and occasionally you can even get paid for your services.

Locations include every part of the United States and most other countries. If you have any experience with house sitting or care taking it can help. Get letters of reference from those who you do house-sit for, so you'll have a better chance at getting the next position.

How much of a vacation this is will depend on how much work the owners require in exchange for the use of their home, of course. It definitely is a cheaper alternative than most vacations.

Outdoor Vacation Alternatives

An outdoor vacation doesn't necessarily mean backpacking or hunting. Friends of mine recently took part in a week-long bicycle tour in Michigan, for example. Another outdoor vacation that can be done in comfort is hiking hut-to-hut in the mountains. Although there are some places in the United States where this can be done, it is much more common in Europe. No tent or sleeping bag is necessary. You hike a few hours from one hut to the next, through beautiful mountains. Food, wine, beds and bedding are available at each hut.

Other Possibilities

If you like rock and gem hunting, you could rent a van to camp in and head for the eastern Arizona desert. Or maybe you want to explore the caves of Tennessee. Look around and think about it a bit. You might find your own "alternative vacations."

How do I get a summer job working on a cruise ship?

I am in my freshman year of college and I really want to work on a cruise ship this summer, even if its as a dishwasher or housekeeper. Can anyone tell me where I can find information on this? I tried going to the Carnival, Princess, and Royal Caribbean websites but they didn't have any information on low level jobs such as these.

You could not find information because cruise ships do not do "summer jobs". They require you to sign a contract to work 4 to 6 months or more continuously. Then you get a few weeks off and then return to the ship. They are NOT looking for temporary help at all.

Is this a good cruise price?

For one person it is $529 for a balcony. So together with tax and tips for two people, the price is around $1250. Are these good prices for a balcony on a 4-day western Caribbean cruise on Carnival cruise lines in mid August 2011? Please advise.

And we have to drive six hours to the port because the port nearest us prices are too expensive. So we have to calculate gas there and back and parking. Just curious.

The price is ok. Unless it is a pricey cruise line. You could get that price easily for a suite on Carnival or Royal Caribbean if it's a 4 day cruise. That dress is fine. I've seen many people underdressed and the maitre D does nothing. That is a great dress for formal night you need a "cocktail dress or gown for the women "Suit or tux for the men". I gotten that from their website. so you are fine with your dress.

It also depends on what ship you are going on. The smaller the ship the less formal the formal night really is. If you are going on a 3 or 4 night cruise you might even be overdressed anyway.
