Caribbean cruises are all the rage these days. When you consider the range of amenities and facilities, the varied ports of call, and the range of activities on offer, Caribbean cruises are pretty good value. They offer much more than any one Caribbean resort can offer, and can be great fun no matter what the weather is like. Modern cruise liners are huge and can usually handle rough weather in stride without the passengers on board even noticing. The popularity of Caribbean cruises has resulted in several cruise lines operating in the region, as well as several different routes to choose from. So how do you decide which cruise line and route?

Firstly, let us take a look at the Caribbean cruise lines on offer. The big names are Royal Caribbean, Princess and Norwegian, and it makes sense to look at these three first. They have made their names based on their reputation of reliability, service and range of amenities, services, activities and routes. The pick of these would have to be Royal Caribbean. Those with enough time and money can easily combine these two regions into one cruise, seeing what I consider to be the best of what the Caribbean has to offer!

Weather in Jamaica

The weather in Jamaica is probably some of the best in the world today. This island has a tropical climate which pretty much ensures that you have beautiful weather no matter what time of year you actually choose to visit Jamaica.

On average the temperatures in Jamaica do not fluctuate much (no more than 10 degrees) and on average sit at between 80 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. But if you are not one for too much heat then the months of July and August should be avoided. Whereas the coolest weather tends to occur in Jamaica in February.

Although generally the temperatures do not get much below 80 or 90 if you intend going into the mountainous area of Jamaica take warm clothing. The reason being that the temperatures can go as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Although the island does have rain it is not that much and the wettest months are usually May, June, October and November and even sometimes in December. However, there are certain parts of the island those on the eastern coast the windward side of the island will receive more rain than any other part of it.

Also you should be aware that from 1 June until 30 November the chances of the island being hit by hurricanes are greatly increased. The months when hurricanes are most likely to occur are in August and September. But because there are so many islands which make up the Caribbean including Jamaica the chances of them being hit by one are very slim. Generally at this time the islands will experience much heavier rain fall than normal.

What Caribbean island or destination is not popular to tourism with somewhat secluded beaches and nice water?

I am a US Citizen looking to travel to a Caribbean style island I can just lay on and rot. I want to lay in a hammock 24/7. If I could find a small piece of untouched land somewhere I would. But we know that isn't going to happen. So what's my next best bet? I was thinking the US Virgin Islands but thats obviously a popular destination. OR if anyone knows of a tucked away secluded specific location in a popular tourist area, that would be fine too. this might be asking too much but.. a small crumb box outdoor bar not far away from that area would also be nice..
try to be creative.. in my search, I came across Coco Blanco .. which is really cool.. almost exactly what I'm looking for.. maybe a little bigger.. I dont know.. images.google.com it

Cruise vacations can be a great deal of fun, but they are not exactly cheap. Many people who would like to take a cruise are often concerned with the cost of taking one. In case you are planning to go on a cruise vacation, you might want to estimate how much it would cost, and there are quite a few ways to estimate that ...

1. Initially, select a cruise line and a cruise ship : This is the first step as your cost depends a lot on the cruise ship you choose to vacation on. Several cruise ships offer vacation packages that are all inclusive and while they may seem to be high priced, you will not have to carry lots of money with you.

2. Where will the cruise ship depart from? If your port of departure is not within easy driving distance, then you may have to take a flight to get there, and you might even have to stay at a hotel overnight in case you get to your port of departure on the previous day. In case the port of departure is very far away from your home, then you may want to consider how you could get there spending the least amount of money possible - in case you really are interested in cutting costs. 3. How much do you plan to spend on board? In case you do not want to choose an all-inclusive option, then you may want to estimate how much you plan to spend on board. That may not be a very easy thing to do as cruise ships are filled with so many wonderful attractions that you may be tempted to try out a lot of things that you had not planned on. But you might want to set yourself a budget and make every effort to stay withing it.

Estimating how much you may be spending on on board entertainment and activities is relatively easier compared to estimating how much you might be spending on food on board since websites of cruise lines specify how much almost every on board activity costs.

Since you may not be able to obtain the menus online, you may not be able to estimate approximately how much you may be spending on food on board.

4. Will your kids be cruising with you? In case you have small children who will be with you on the cruise, you may want to consider how much you may be spending on childcare ... if you are planning to use that facility, that is.

5. Shore trips - what do you want to buy? If you plan to buy souvenirs at destination ports, travel around the place, buy food and more then you might want to set a budget for that too. Estimating those expenses may not be feasible because you may not know how much it costs to travel there or how much food or almost anything else costs there beforehand.

Even if you do not arrive at a precise value of how much money you might be spending on your cruise vacation, this exercise may at least help you in knowing what you may be spending money on during the vacation.

Best non-tourist place to travel in Caribbean/Mexico?

My girlfriend and I, and possibly some other couples too, are looking to travel some where in the Caribbean for spring break.

We are looking for somewhere with the true Caribbean waters and feel around it.

We are also hoping for a place less known for tourists and partying, and more known for the great adventures to be had: snorkeling/scuba diving, beautiful hiking, maybe zip lining, etc.

We are also trying to do this on a budget-ish... essentially we are looking for the best value.

I've heard that renting out villas on beaches can be cheaper and more authentic, but I've also heard great things about inclusive hotels.. so I'm not sure which is the better route

Meet Me in Cruz Bay - Vacation

Shela beach Lamu

The ancient Swahili village often spelled Shela, sits at the start of the glorious Shela beach .In some places it even more medieval than Lamu, with a few signs of modernity along it s maze-like alleyways. Ironically the pleasing authenticity is mostly due to the large and expat population, who has restored many of the old houses -left to its own devices Shela would probably be far more dilapidated.

Shela's first residents were migrants from the abandoned settlement of Takwa on Manda Island. The local people speak a distinct dialect of Swahili and you can see a strong evidence of Omani ancestry in many peoples faces. Although this is something of a European enclave, with almost unseemly amounts of building going on to cater for foreign demand, its still an atmospheric place to visit and wander around and the mood is just as languorous and laid back as it's always been.

Sights and Activities in Lamu Kenya

There are no cultural attractions in Shela, but wandering around the village is a very amenable way to pass the time. Look out for the pillar-style Mnarini mosque behind Peponi hotel.

Most people are here for the beach -this spectacular dune-backed strip runs for 12 Kms around the headland, so you are guaranteed a private stretch of sand, and it's a good place to comb the beach for shells. The Indian Ocean tsunami washed away a lot of sand here, revealing some sharp but it's expected to return to normal within a few seasons.

At the start of the beach is a ridiculous mock fort, which was built by an Italian entrepreneur who had lots of money but bad taste.

There is no surf at Shela village because it lies at the channel between Lamu and Manda islands which makes it a prime spot for windsurfing. For traditional surfing there are real breakers at the mouth of the channel, although this is the realm of some substantial sharks.

Peponi hotels water sports center runs water skiing (Ksh 8000 per hour) windsurfing (Kshs 650 to Kshs 800 per hour) snorkeling (equipment Kshs 200 per day), deep sea fishing (from US$ 200 per boat) and scuba diving for certified divers between December and march (US$ 50/90 for one /two dives, including lunch).cheaper windsurfing gear is available at talking trees village.

Whats the most economical tropical destination?

The husband and I both want to take a much belated honeymoon to somewhere tropical with white sandy beaches etc in about a year (not particular about dates. Any time of the year will be fine.)

The problem is I can't really research trips because I have no idea where the best place to go would be. I'm open to pretty much anywhere, from Hawaii to the Caribbean. We will not be taking children.

Ideally I'd like something inclusive with decent lodging-- Doesn't have to be 4 star, but clean and pest free with food and drinks included would be great, or decent and cheap restaurants nearby. I'd be planning to fly from Phoenix.

Where do the experienced travelers think I will get the most bang for my buck from besides Mexico? (I'd prefer not to go there.)

Hawaii does not have any all-inclusives. It's a state and there are no all-inclusives in the US.

Jamaica is perfect. Great all-inclusives that even include activities (snorkeling, golfing, etc). It's very reasonably priced and the hotels are couples only so you won't have a million bratty kids running around. Negril is the nice side of the island, don't go to Ochos Rios. The best hotel is Swept Away, my brother got married there and my parents go there every fall.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is nice but have to be careful because alot of teenagers and young 20's go there to party. Bahamas is WAY too touristy and not romantic. The Virgin Islands like St.Thomas and St.Marten are gorgeous but tend to be a lot more expensive. A cruise around the caribbean is always fun, you get to see many islands, except alcohol is not included.
Maybe you should go see a travel agent, they will be able to get you exactly what you want for a great price and you don't have to pay any extra. A lot of people think booking online is cheaper, but agents can get great deals and the hotels cut them commission, so it doesn't cost you any more.

Empuriabrava on Spain's Costa Brava is one of the world's largest inland marinas, and home to one of the worlds most important sky-diving schools, Skyrats.

Empuriabrava the town, and the surrounding waterways, started to be constructed in September 1965, and was not completed until many years later. The town now in 2008, is well developed. and looks nothing like it did in the 60's, mostly due to the mass of building and construction work that has taken place since.

Now in 2008, Empuriabrava is one of Catalunya's most popular holiday resorts, attracting over 100,000 visitors every summer season. In the late 1960's, Empuriabrava was heavily advertised to the German market, later to the Belgians and then the rest of Europe.

Now in the present day, Empuriabrava is a bustling town, with many residents living here the whole year round. The town has many large attractions that pull in thousands of people every year, the main one being, Skyrats, Empuriabrava's own Sky Diving school.

Skyrats, has been called, one of the most important sky diving schools in the world, and holds some of the biggest events in the sky diving calender each year.

The school is open to anyone, and you can turn up and do a tandem jump, usually the same day, after some basic safety training.

Also in Empuriabrava is the nightclub Pacha, one of the worlds biggest nighclubs. The club, which started in Ibiza in 1973 (James Blunt wrote the song "1973" in a tribute to the club) has gone on to have clubs in, New York, London, Buenos Aires and Barcelona.

the club is just one of many nighclubs, all located within walking distance of each other, at the entrance of Empuriabrava.

The town also has a nightclub located directly on the beach, Pasarella, which has an open air bar and swimming pool located within the club.

For those of you who like a more quieter vacation, Empuriabrava has many Beaches and Nature Parks, the main one being the Aiguamolls, an important and widely respected nature reserve on the edge of Empuriabrava. A visit to the park will turn up many wild birds, some not seen anywhere else in the region.

The beach is very clean, and is kept clean by the council of Castello d'Empuires, the local historic medieval town, that has the ruling power of Empuriabrava.

Castello d'Empuries dates back to the 14th century and well before, this can be seen in the old buildings, including the Basilica Santa Maria. A visit to the old town will be an eye opener for many visitors, whom I'm sure, won't have seen anything like it before, like travelling back in time one thousand years.

If you are visiting Empuriabrava at anytime, their are an abundance of properties for rent, long and short term. Their are also many rental agencies, and also many properties are available direct from the owner. The town has all the amenities any family could ever need, supermarkets, like the family owner Montserrat, which has been running since the late 1960's. So, any visit to the town will never be a boring one, with so much to do, for all ages, Empuriabrava really is Catalunya's number 1 choice for a summer vacation.

Since we're backpacking and looking to travel light I was wondering what would be the essentials that 3 of should bring and share.. like toothpaste, shampoo, etc... what else should we bring that we can share?

For those who have been to St. Lucia.. what do you recommend that we see/do? Apart from all the touristy things.. we want to see/explore places where tourist don't usually go. I personally take a lot photos and I like to capture the essence of places and people and this you really can't get in resorts and things of those nature. How do you recommend we travel? I read some blogs where people have said that hitchhiking is a good idea.. How much cash should we bring?

The Island is not that big. You can probably just take one of the local busses around the Island they are cheap. If I remember right camping is legally only allowed in the National Park Trust at Anse La Liberta. I believe rates run between $25.00-$75.00 depending on the season. Bring your mesquito net and be aware St. Lucia is home to a very rare and poisionious snake Fer De Lance which belongs to the Viper family.

This is an amusement park ride and you have to wait for a while to get the exciting but short ride. A good precaution is to bring your rain gear because the shelter covering the space is limited.

Hi, has anyone been on a Disney Western Caribbean Cruise?

We leave for our trip this fall with stops in Key West, Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Anyone have any info or advice to give about excursions or general cruise info would be great. Thanks!

No, I haven't, but I have been to those three ports on cruises. They are all easy to do on your own, provided you MAKE SURE you get back to the ship on time [especially important in Cayman, since it's a tendered port].

In Cayman, you'll probably want to swim with stingrays. It's great fun and there are many reliable companies that can take you there. Captain Marvin and Nativeway are two I've used - both were good, but I preferred the latter because it included a trip to Rum Point. But, we just did make it back to catch the last tender!

In Coz, Chankanaab Park is beautiful [haven't been there since the reconstruction after Wilma, but I've seen pictures and it looks better than ever]. It's easy to get a cab there and back. [Check their website for details.] Some people prefer Paradise Beach [website], but I liked Chank better.
