caribbean cruise?!!!?

What are some money saving tips for a carnival/royal caribbean cruise? What is the cheapest price for a family of four for 7 days?

All of the cruise lines have specials listed on their web sites and Carnival and Royal Caribbean both have good specials. Carnival is the budget cruise line so their prices will be slightly lower than RC but my advice is go with RC because they have more and better amenities and things to do on their ships, like the rock climbing wall, ice skating, roller blade skating, mini-golf, water parks, basketball courts, etc. You will have the most fun and likely find the best prices on RC's Oasis, Freedom and Voyager Class ships: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/ships/home.do;jsessionid=0000VSZULlt6WXgxK4LgttqW-z-:12hbiocus?cS=NAVBAR

You will also get a better price by booking early, like up to a year in advance AND also go on the dates when the price is the lowest. Prices generally vary by date as much as a couple hundred dollars; eg: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/cruiseDetails/itineraryAndPricing.do;jsessionid=0000VSZULlt6WXgxK4LgttqW-z-:12hbiocus?packageCode=FR07W033&region=CARIB&ship=ANY&date=ANY&selectedCurrencyCode=USD&promoType=&hasSenior=&hasMilitary=&hasFireandPolice=&state=

Remember that the prices shown are for each of the first two persons in the cabin and then there is generally a much cheaper fare, about 50 %, for the 3rd and 4th person in your cabin. Also RC has same family cabins on some of its ships that are slightly larger than the regular cabins.

Most cruise lines will push drinks on you, especially the first couple days. Don't think you have to buy drinks to have fun. If you don't drink all day at home or on other vacations, then don't drink all day on ship. Plus you'll quickly run up a very high drinking bill. Bring along a 6-pack of 16 oz soft drinks and/or bottled water in your carry on (or checked luggage) OR, buy soft drink when you get to a port and bring them back to your cabin.

The cruise lines will offer a lot of interesting tours but they will be expensive. You DO NOT have to buy tours to get off the ship in port stops. You can go off on your own and many times in Caribbean and Bahamas ports you can find cheaper tours on the pier.

There is plenty of free food on ship 24/7 so there really no reason to pay to eat in a specialty restaurant. You'll not be able to eat all of the great free food.

Cruise lines will take lots of photos of you boarding the ship, getting off in ports, at dinner, on formal nights, around the ship. These will be very expensive ($10 to $25) so take your camera with you all of the time and take your own photos and ask other passengers to take photos of you, they will gladly.

The ships have internet service but it is very expensive; likely about $50 an hour, even if you buy a package. Wait until you get to a port stop and find an internet cafe. Ask the wait staff and your cabin steward because they generally know where they are.

Most of the cruise lines will have you use a hand sanitizer that will be at the entrance of the ship and also at the entrance of eating places. Use it and also take with you a small bottle of sanitizer or some handiwipes to help prevent the flu and the Norwalk virus.

Your cruise will have a formal night or two when you can wear your best stuff. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. You will not be denied entry to the main dining room or any other place if you decide not to dress up, as long as you are at least sports casual.

- Its best to pack using soft-sided luggage because with space limited in your cabin it fits under the beds better if its not hard sided luggage. Pack using the vacuum clothing bags (about $20 for 3 at Target) so that you can get more in your bag AND so that if the TSA at the airport opens your bag they can see what's inside without rummaging through your things.

-Take a small carry-on bag for the last night of the cruise. On the last evening you will be required to put your luggage outside your cabin by about 2:00 AM so that they can start taking it down to the lower deck for offloading the next morning. So you will need a small bag for your toiletries and your clothes that you sleep in.

-If you plan to get into the pools or hot tub as soon as you get on ship (they will be open), bring those clothes in your carry on bag; you other luggage may not get to your cabin until much later in the afternoon.

Cheap Honeymoon Spots, when my soldier returns from Iraq in august?

well my hubby flew off today for iraq i have never been so sad in my life i cried like a baby. weve been married for a year and a half but with the army we never got to go on our honeymoon and he promess to go somewhere upon his return from his tour. however his passport expire can he travel with his military ID and birth certificate to the Caribbean or will we have to settle for something withing the states. i really need your opinions.
PS. he wont have enough time to wait for a passport not enough leave time especially being in charge of other soldiers he caint afford to take forever its all about seizing the moment when it comes.
thank you From a desperate military wife.

He needs a passport to travel outside the US and you do to.

However, may I suggest Disney in Orlando. Right now, all military members get a 5 day park hopper pass for free and your 5 day park hopper ticket is only $99.00 plus tax. You can stay at Shades of Green which is the military resort in Orlando. They have excellent rates.

Honeymoons are overrated anyway. My husband and I have been married for 13 years and never took a "honeymoon". We enjoy quiet time at home. You can have a "Honeymoon" without leaving home and it can be just as romantic if you want it to.

Help?Anyone out here know geography?

My daughter is having some difficulties with her homework, here are some of the questionss (one word answers)

what are small, flat islands formed from coral 3 letters

what is the narrow strip of land connecting Mexico and South America?

Largest country in Central America?

four largest caribbean islands?

style of folk music spread in Latin America?

the dead season?

Any or all would work-thanks!

1) atoll (but that's more than three letters)

2) Central America (or Isthmus of Panama)

3) Nicaragua

4) Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and probably Jamaica

5) This makes no sense, because thare are many. Try "tango" or "salsa".

6) This makes no sense unless you are talking about Mexico's "Day of the Dead".

===edit====

For (5), they are probably looking for "salsa" music, since that one is the best known in the U.S.

caribbean for honeymoon late july/early august. any chance os hurricanes and/or bad weather ?

must have: perfect beaches, nice casinos, some shopping...

Chances of encountering a hurricane around july and august are pretty high, since that is still in the hurricane season. You can increase the chances of encountereing one by going to one of the islands outosde the hurricane belt, Like Aruba, Bonaire or Curacao. This does not mean that you will not encounter one, but the chances are very remote.. last hurricane to really hit these islands hard was over 100 years ago. Recent hurricnes came close, but not direct.
Out of these 3, I would recomend you Curacao. Has perfect beaches, plenty of nice casinos, and ample shopping locations.

Questioning how comfortable this will be?

My partner and I just booked a cruise to the Southern Caribbean on Carnival cruise lines.
This is generally a "straight" persons cruise. I am not really worried about the staff just at dinner when you are paired up with other people that you don't know.
Has anyone ever traveled Carnival with their partner?

My partner and I did that same cruise once on Carnival. We were seated at a large table that had six str8 college kids (3 girls and 3 boys) that were on their Spring break. They were all very friendly to us. As the week went on, they became more & more friendlier and asked if they could accompany us on our land excursions. The trip was great.

But it's really the luck of the draw with whom you'll be seated with for dinner. Norwegian Cruise Lines has "freestyle" seating where you just sit wherever you want every single dinner. Their cruises are great because that eliminates any awkwardness you may have to endure for the duration of your cruise.

I'm sure you can always ask for a new seating assignment if you both are unfortunately seated with a group of fundamentalist, right-winged, evangelical Christians. But I suggest you remain seated where you are, and have the intolerant guests be the ones to ask for a new seating assignment. Rosa Parks once did something similar to this. So...don't let anyone move you to the back of the bus ...or boat. Good luck and enjoy yourselves!

How is Grand Cayman for a honeymoon?

We are considering going to Grand Cayman (or another Caribbean island) for our honeymoon in May/June 2010.

If you have been, I'd like to hear about your experience (in general, weather, food, stuff to do, etc.) and even specifically if you liked a particular resort or something.

Any details will help! The more detailed the better. Thanks!

I used to live in Grand Cayman. It is an idyllic island for a honeymoon and you would be going at a good time -- out of season and therefore uncrowded, yet before there is a risk of hurricane. If you can possibly find the funds to do this, book dinner for two at the Westin Casuarina on the beach. Only one couple can do this per night, so it has to be booked well in advance. It's pricey, but you'll cherish the memory for the rest of your lives. Otherwise, do try their Sunday brunch, which is utterly wonderful (and cheaper). You'll probably want to stay on the Seven Mile Beach, which will not be cheap, but it will be magical. There is plenty to do and see and my favourite will always be the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park (which can be combined with a trip to the blowholes and Pedro Castle, if you hire a car). Otherwise, choose from this. http://www.grand-cayman-wanderer.com/

what are some beach resorts in the caribbean like beaches for families?

i'd like to find a resort like this.
i've looked a hotwire expedia etc etc but i'm looking for more of a resort like beaches and it's not on jamaica. mom doesn't want to go there, but any of the caribbean islands are fine.

and for a 7 day trip too,
that are for families. fun yet safe. if you can tell me a good resort that would really, really help.

we're not going until july but we'd like to book now.

Im 17 and I have been on many family vacations in the carribean. One of my favourite chains is the Gran Bahia Principe. Its located in various parts of Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico and other places. My favourite was the one in the Mayan Riveria, Mexico called the Bahia Principe Tulum. I enjoyed that one alot. There was alot to do for the whole family. It shares the property with its sister resorts Bahia Principe Akumal and Coba. So you can visit those as well so there isnt a dull moment.
